How to remove your number from Truecaller

Truecaller APP that is available for download on IOS, Android and Windows Mobile.  When installed, basically it displays Name, Telecom Company and location of any incoming call. Additionally can tell if some number has been labelled as spam, which helps to keep the unwanted Telemarketers away and can block that number for future.

Truecaller basically collects phone numbers and other relevant information when you have TRUECALLER installed on your mobile, it’s policies allow to collect far more information than one can imagine. In any case, being one of the top 10 Mobile App in the world, it has become a largest database for the phone numbers all around the world but in some way, it violates your privacy as well. Any one in this world can check for information on any Mobile or landline number by using search option on the App.

The Truecaller declares the opening statement in it’s Privacy Policy as follows:

This Privacy Policy describes what personal information You may share with Truecaller, as data controller, and other Users when activating and using the Truecaller Services, how Truecaller receives, collects and uses this data and how You may opt-out at any time, altogether preventing use of the data shared via the Services.

When you install and use the Truecaller Apps, Truecaller will collect, process and retain personal information from You and any devices You may use in Your interaction with our Services.

This information that Truecaller collects under your permission, includes the following: 

  1. geo-location,
  2. your IP address,
  3. device ID or unique identifier,
  4. device manufacturer and type,
  5. device and hardware settings,
  6. ID for advertising,
  7. ad data,
  8. operating system,
  9. operator,
  10. IMSI,
  11. connection information,
  12. screen resolution,
  13. usage statistics,
  14. device log and event information,
  15. incoming and outgoing calls and messages,
  16. times and date of calls,
  17. duration of calls,
  18. version of the Truecaller Apps You use
  19. And other information based on Your interaction with our Services.

 

Truecaller may use the information collected from, and in connection with, all of our services to provide, maintain, and improve them, to develop new ones, and to protect Truecaller and its users. Truecaller also uses this information to provide you with tailored content, such as search results and advertisements more relevant to You.

The privacy policy provided here, is worth going through. It basically covers all important aspect, which are even provided under Indian Information Technology Law as well. But given the usage of your private information that is being recorded, one can consider both uninstalling and also opting out of the same. Many are even unaware of availability of such an app, though their number and name may have been added to the Truecaller database, from some friend’s contact list. In any of these or other circumstances you have the option to get your number unlisted from the Truecaller database.

To unlist or remove your number from Truecaller Database, which is possible only if you deactivate your registered account with Truecaller and then make an unlisting request at https://www.truecaller.com/unlist, which has the following information:

UNLIST / REMOVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER

If you don’t want your number to be searchable in the Truecaller app, then enter your phone number below including the country code and press ‘Unlist’. (i.e. +4690512214).

If you have registered an account with Truecaller, you need to deactivate it first in order to unlist. For more information please click

You need to deactivate your Truealler account in order to unlist.

Further, due to all the information that is being collected from your mobile due to use of the Truecaller App on regular basis, it’s better to uninstall Truecaller app as well. In future, the number may creep in the Truecaller database again. Therefore, you may be required to contact them directly or serve them with a Legal notice for removal !!!
