.IN Domains

2/16/2005 By Blogger 19 Comments

Real time .In Domain regsitration started from 16th Feb. I registered one domain today “CyberLawyer.in” for 1 year ๐Ÿ™‚

Though most common Domain names are not available, as there was some pre-registration process, in which any number of persons can apply for single Domain, and it was mystery as to who will get it. Different companies followed different policies to earn more profits.

I call this process as unfair. As there was some decision by Germany Supreme Court, which said, that Domain name registration can be on first-come basis only. But here companies in order to earn a huge profit, just collecting money from different person for a single Domain Name, by telling things like we are not maintaining any database. It was said to me by Net4India representative ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Net4Domain was allowing pre-registration for minimum of 5 years and charging Rs 4,500/- out of which 4,000 was refundable. I paid them in the beginning for “CyberLaw.in” but stopped the payment of cheque. As the process was not transparent

Similarly companies like DirectI, provided for compulsorily registration for two years and further provided that in case two persons apply for same domain name. Then the person bidding for the higher amount will get the domain… a gamble.

In case, you want to register a .IN Domain…
The first company to start Real-time regsitration is… GoodLuck Domains, Chennai…
http://www.goodluckdomain.in/index.php
Though most of the .IN domains are gone, but mostly available under 3rd level Domains.

Still can try your luck :thumb:

the domains i wanted are all gone. some american company has already bought tons of .in domains. net4india confirmed that they took advanced orders from their personal clients for pre-booking of these domains. indiamart is one such company which has booked a LOT of domains before the domains were made available to us… the users. Makes me wanna puke and discard .in domains for ever.

Not to worry, i was thinking of bringing such things to light too. It was really an unfair process. I will email you for exact details.

Will try to take some action against these companies next month through PIL (Public Interest Litigation) :thumb:

Thanks for visitting my blog ๐Ÿ™‚
It’s true that most companies want us to pay few years in advance to reserve our domain, just in case someone else wants that domain. However, bidding is not a good way I guess. Don’t like the idea ๐Ÿ™

    Welcome Mona ๐Ÿ™‚
Ya, it was overall an unfair process.

Thx Sushubh:!: Mesopia account supports as many Add-on Domains. Plus still have that life-time space too. So Hosting is not a problem.

We will plan out the things soon :smokin:

Today, Hathway provided the following info reg Port :2222…

“forwarding few links related to port 2222 (subseven Trajon )used for DDOS
    http://downloads.securityfocus.com/library/subseven6_14.html
    http://archives.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/06/16/movie.virus.idg/

They say… they provide secured network. But when I complianed again, they alloted me a Public IP, and say now its your duty to safeguard your connection… ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Other web-space is provided with Port :2222, so this was of concern:!: So now I can use Port 2222, but I don’t know how unsecure it is.

But when so many companies are providing DirectAdmin with Port 2222, I don’t think there must be something very serious ๐Ÿ™„

    What you say Sushubh โ“

To some extent, as just read on DirectI.com today, that they have been restricted from Auctioning the Domain names to highest bidder ๐Ÿ™‚

But again after opening up sales again today – Net4Domain.co.in is indulging in Unfair Practice by allowing anybody to register any domain they like.
They are not providing the option to check for availability as was provided by GoodLuck Domains.

As in this way Net4India can keep Rs 500/- per domain to themselves and have to return balance Rs 4,000 only. Even anybody can register my .IN domain too  Try it on http://www.net4india.co.in

well i feel weird that blocking port would help make their network secure…

maybe they should make linux a pre-requisite for their users.

Though, I did stop the payment for the domain CyberLaw.in, still I received an email with a SORRY, that they were not able to get it for me. That means I saved Rs 500/- ๐Ÿ˜€

And today I searched for the owner of CyberLaw.in domain, and it was a surprize to see the name of Mr. Naavi ๐Ÿ™„

As I previously had mention I am pursuing a Certificate course in CyberLaw from CyberLawCollege, Chennai and Mr Naavi is the owner of Cyber Law College

And it has been registered through DirectI.com, which also proves that DirectI.com is more efficient than Net4Domain.co.in.
Otherwise, also it seems from the Domain registration records that DirectI has secured more Domains for their clients that Net4Domain during the pre-registration process.

As I had mention, Domain cannot be given except on First-Come basis… that’s what DirectI.com has now used as a basis for allotment

Still the process remains unfair… as when this is to be basis, then what was the need of Pre-registration process. Because how a person will know, pre-registration process has been started โ“

Do not register domain name with net4india.com. Very frustrating service they provide. They chage Rs.1000/- for a single subdomain
