Premium Petrol…

7/27/2006 By Blogger 12 Comments

Petrol PumpWhen you get to buy petrol at IOC, HP or BP Petrol Pumps. You are offered two choices, either you can have Ordinary or Premium Petrol. The person at Petrol Pump will claim, the premium petrol which costs Rs 1.5 more, will increase average per KM and also enhance engine life.

And due to these factors, you go for Premium Petrol. But the truth is that these Premium Petrol never give you better mileage, that I’ve also experienced and secondly, there petrols may be are good but only for racing cars and not for ordinary vehicles, as has been surveyed by a Consumer Magazine recently.

The Magazine people also wrote to the Top Management of the Bharat Petroleum(BP), who were unable to answer, because Premium Petrol makes no difference to ordinary vehicles. That’s why Reliance Petrol Pumps, that recently came up, only have one kind of petrol available at their outlets. As there is no use of Premium Petrol. So better avoid it !

And magazine people also raised a valid point, do these Petrol Pumps, otherwise also give you pure petrol. Answer is certainly NO. And this is really the case with most of the petrol pumps. But if you found out and complain, no one will listen to you. If you stay in Lawrence Road, avoid filling up tank from HP, that is opposite to Mazdoor Park. Indian Oil Petrol pump is more reliable.

What normally, Petrol Pumps do…. they hire the employees for less and employees make extra money by tampering Pump meters or applying different tatics. Few years back, one of my cousin was employed at some Store located at a Petrol Pump in Central Delhi from where I got secret information…

What used to happen was…. out of Four pumps at Petrol Pump, only one was perfect but it always had board “Out of Order” in front of it 😯 And meters used to run very fast on others that an ordinary person can never notice and get looted ❗

Hidustan Times also carried some article this month against Premium Petrols I’ve heard. So in any case, avaoid it, as the purpose of the Premium petrol also is just to make extra money by Petrol Pump owners and no benefit for ordinary vehicle owner is intended ❗

Even it happened in Indonesia too … there was a petrol station close at my place, the petrol is not as “clean” as other places. The burn is not completely perfect so when you drive, you can feel the difference. And Some places have the meters which run very fast and we pay more than we should pay .. 🙁 it’s really bad that sometimes we just don’t have much options, do we?

this is great information Ankur. 🙂 Thanks for providing that:!: I am not surprised by the tampering, since it is a full service petrol pump there is very much possibility that they change the meters to charge more. It would be nice if this type of news gets out more to the public in India!!

Mona: You are very right… an ordinary citizen, first of all, dont have any means to find out purity of petrol. And really we dont have any alternative as almost 90% of Pumps indulge in Unfair Trade Practices.

Poonam: Thanks. You are right Poonam… such things need more publicity ❗

These things happen all the time in India.. IMO company operated petrol pumps are the best bets!

And yes, premium petrol is just a marketing gimmick…nothing else!!

    Sir,
Its very easy to say that premium petrol doesnot work on normal cars, but my opinion is different, as d milage of my vehicle and my friends have increased due to premium petrol only, also the noise of d vehicle after we raise it has gone down… now i feel my vehicle is new… the pick up has also increased…

i have used dat power brand of HP and has found out very promising result…
