Sify BroadBand – Relief Asked For…

10/25/2004 By Blogger 453 Comments

I have almost prepared the case. The facts basically include the harassment caused by SIFY. The same thing as Prashant had mentioned on http://sifybroadband.techwhack.com, they also forced me to format the computer in the beginning, though the speed was reduced delibrately by SIFY due to that additional condition.

Plus they had made false promises regarding speed at the time of installation.

Following is the list of relief, I am asking for in addition to compensation,… if you have some other additional point, please post it in comments…

1. To disclose the additional condition preferably as an advertisement in newspaper for the existing customers that the unlimited pack, is subject to additional condition. Plus also disclose: IP provided is unstatic.

2. To remove the word “Broadband? from their service name. As it does not satisfy the definition of BroadBand laid down by Telephone Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

3. Plus, an injunction against SIFY from the use of word “Shared?, as they don’t give a connection that is really shared throughout. And for any complaints they take shelter behind these words.

4. To review whether they can classify these packges, which are subject to conditions, as Unlimited.

5. To restrict them from implementing the new Client, wherein a person is forced to install MaCfee AntiVirus and uninstall any other already installed Antivirus.

6. The LCO must be fined and ordered to remove the UNLIMTED connections, provided by him to offices for commercial purposes, which is unnecessary burden for residential users, as their speed is shared.

7. They must be ordered to maintain a system in which they can provide a STATIC IP, else they must be held responsible under Section 66 of IT Act, 2000 and fined.

Point 7 explanation: Section 66 relates to Hacking of computers, which provides for fine upto 2 lacs or 3 yrs imprisonment, this has been included bacause there are lot of hacking attempts from SIFY network, which are detected by Firewall, but the culprit cannot be caught as IP is un-static.

Anybody, who is from Delhi can join in, and claim there compensation separately. It would help in making the case not only strong but also increase the chances of a win. Which, ofcourse, is what every SIFY customer is hoping for 🙂

some more points u can add…

    1. CTOs should behave as Sify’s representative.
    2. Night users dont get CTO support.
    3. CTO charges extra in the name of service charge, Sify won’t do anything also mentions nothing.
    4. They tell users to get 50k connection for extra reliability if they are not happy to go through CTO.
    5. I would be back with more 😉

    Good Points!

I forgot to add… the point 3 regarding “Maintainence Charges”, extra is charged in Delhi too.

Point 2 is also good, if connection fails at night after 8 PM, then nothing is done till next day afternoon.

Point 1: Ya, they try to escape liability by trying to putting blame on one another.

Point 4: I have included this kind of point in Facts, as they used to tell me too, to go for some another package, after the speed was reduced, if I am not satisfied with current package, it’s a Restrictive Trade Practice.

    Add more 🙂

    Other points
1)They offer the connection when asked for directly but we end up with an unrelaible CTO.
2)They claim 24X7 customer service but try calling the Bangalore number- we get a polished reply and then are asked to leave our number and they even say that the service is only available on wekdays between 9 to 5. I bet one good thing to do is to call the customer care service from inside the court room and let the judge hear about the “true power of the internet ” !!!!!!
3)They also do not have a refund policy if we are sick of the service and want to terminate it. This is sort of like being in bonded labour and is being monopolistic and restrictive !!!

Once I file the case in the next few days.

Before the first hearing, which will be not before December, what I can do is… collect everbody’s complaint in writing i.e. they can post it to me, and submit before the court. This will make the case super-strong 😀

And I will also start making post at your forum, so
that more people become interested 🙂

Ya, compensation cannot be claimed more than the loss incurred.

    Compensation can include:

    1. Money paid to SIFY.
    2. Expenses incurred on use of other internet services, because of poor speed or unavailability of SIFY BROADBAND
    3. Mental Agony and Harassment caused by SIFY customer care and Local cable operator.
    4. Any other loss that may have been incurred by you.

In addition to the above i have claimed for examplary damages, that means damages that are paid in excess of loss incurred, to set an example for other companies 😀

    hey Ankur
My contribution (may it help you:wink:)
:arrow:Whenever you try to login to Sify through Broadband Client. Wot it does is, It checks your System for Anti-Virus Software. If you have Norton installed, it will compel you to uninstall Norton and install Mcafee( Guess Sify n Mcafee have tied up )Those guys get to know abt antivirus software installed on client machines. If they want, they can disable this. This does mean that they can even control the client we have installed. (Isnt this similar to The Microsoft Case:?: )

:arrow:Secondly Are Sify customers secured:?:. I mean the Login System:mrgreen:. Not only the broadband users but also ppl having Sify.com email accounts can be easily *hacked*. Using their system itlself i am accessible to any damn SIFY account. IF you want me to release that *hack* , Please email me.

P.S: Mind you guys, This isnt a HACK actually. I aint intruding their servers. JUST USING THIER SYSTEM to get the things going. I’m Not a HACKER 😀

“Whoever with the intent of cause or knowing that is likely to cause wrongful loss or damage to the public or any person destroys or deletes or alters any information residing in a computer resource or diminishes its value or utility or affects it injuriously by any means, commits hacking.”

    Mr G Singh:!:
Really the CTO’s which provide SIFY services are just like SIFY, sick people 🙁

My CTO didnt had any power back-up for Swtiches installed in our area… so when ever power used to go off, immediately it used to disconnect and appear as “Network Cable Unplugged”, though I have back-up of more than one hour, but had to suffer.

The CTO used to re-assure me, the problem will be fixed, but it was never fixed. Atlast I switched to Hotwire again.

I have tried my best to ousted SIFY’s CTO from my area, by making representation in writing to the RWA’s (Resident’s Welfare Association) top officials. Gave all the negative points plus gave a comparison of SIFY Vs. HOTWIRE. As Hotwire too is available in our area 😎

After the case is filed in this week, and as more and more people unite, next step will be to try to get some publicity for the case, as Sushubh too mentioned, by writing to Editors of top Newspapers in respective cities, and thereby bringing truth about SIFY BROADBAND to public or through any other mode available.

Let’s hope for the best 😀

few general suggestion would be it would be wiser to go thought there TOS ( Terms of service ) which usually any customer generally sign and doesn’t bother to read it while taking any new service it would be good idea to go through it if u haven’t because that’s what contains most loopholes and full of ambiguities to save any company’s ass 💡

it would be nice to be prepared for the loopholes mentioned and have a cogent argument to overcome them 😀

they have mentioned this in their terms and conditions that any usage of more than 6hrs in a day is commercial.

and then they sell shared packs claiming them to be unlimited and label them for non-commercial usage.

and then they tell us that if we use the 64kbps pack for more than 6hrs a day, they would deduct another day.

so i can break their terms and conditions and that would be ok with them? as long as i let them deduct another days’ usage?

    what is wrong with them?

are they mad. or are they plain stupid.

    i am clueless.

I think those appear at the time of registration…

i am on that package now and have ot check my network at 4-5 pm because that is the time i can hope that the cto could get some linesman to get my network fixed incase something is wrong.

like it happened today. the switch to my house was fried up. i checked my pc at 4pm. called the cto at 4:05. the dude arrived only at around 7 the network was luckily fixed by 8.

what if i turned on my computer at 9pm to find the network connection disabled? who would i call to fix my network.

    Hi all,

I am Prasad, yet another unfortunate soul to have been cheated by Sify.

It is very unfortunate that so many of us have been CHEATED so badly by Sify.

    Sify Broadband SUCKS BIG TIME.

I would say that even if some of you out there are spending a lot on ur existing dial-up connection, persists with it. U are fortunate that atleast on the nth try u are connected. There are some poor souls like us who have ended up paying hundreds of Rupees to these Sify A*#@$!##s and still dont have a connection for days together.

The Errors and problems with Sify are innumerable ranging from IP conflicts in the network to the gateway being down..or any other damn reason.. They (Sify) provide one SHITTY customer care which again like their Internet connection doesnt work. If u are fortunate and get connected to the customer care all u end up doing is shouting your lungs out about the bad service u are getting..and all u get are dozens of reference numbers for the problem…and usually no solution.

To add to the customers woes..they have come up with yet another unique way to torture us. Their NEW Sify broadband Client (which has a new version released with bug fixes almost every other day). These people are providing some latest antivirus (McAfee Secure Synergy) free to all their customers..thats good u would say…but guess what..this antivirus gets downloaded along with the client (compulsarily). which starts installation as soon as it is downloaded. If one does not want that free antivirus s/w …

(most of us already have some latest antivirus software with all the updates with which we are happy)

He/she has to call up sify customer care and tell them your IP and userid after which they will bypass the antivirus download for ur IP.? Why the HELL to make things so complicated???…every time there is an IP conflict and the local CTO changes my local ip…do i need to waste time

calling up the customer care again and again..?
Why cant they simply provide two links for the client (with and w/o the antivirus)?

Apart from all these..the packages are SHITTY! none of the packages (limited or unlimited) give the promised speeds..unlimited packages already have sick speed limits..some package states as Unltd 32Kbps+.all u get normally in this package is about 10 (Max) Kbps..pages like google take ages to load.. U call up the customer care and they say that they need proof that U are getting such low speeds.. send them screenshots about the sick speeds u are getting and they reply that since it is a shared connection speeds can vary and the bandwidth is not dedicated. WHAT is BROADBAND?? a speed of 4-10 Kbps?…i would get better speeds on my phone line.
The Bottom line is NEVER EVER IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS THINK ABOUT GETTING A SIFY CONNECTION…U’LL END UP BEING
CHEATED…(THESE PEOPLE AT SIFY ARE EXPERT CHEATERS)

SOME OF THE 1001 REASONS WHY TO SAY NO TO SIFY
    ===============================

1.THEY WILL GET ALL UR MONEY AND U WONT GET INTERNET

    CONNECTION.

2.THEIR BROADBAND CLIENT WILL SCREW UP YOUR PC BIG TIME.

    3. YOU WILL GET SO FRUSTRATED THAT U’LL NEVER THINK ABOUT

GETTING A BROADBAND CONNECTION EVER AGAIN

    4. INSTEAD OF BEING BUSY DOING WORK U’LL ONLY BE BUSY CALLING
UP THE SIFY CUSTOMER CARE FOR SOLVING SOME PROBLEM

    5. NONE OF THE PACKAGES OFFERED BY SIFY ARE GOOD.
    (ALL OF THEM SUCK)

    6. TRAVELLING TO YOUR NEAREST CYBERCAFE OR SURFING THE NET
ON A DIAL-UP (PHONE) CONNECTION WOULD CAUSE U LESS PAIN,

    MONEY AND SUFFERING

    AND MANY MORE..

IF ANY BODY FINDS SOME REASON GOOD ENOUGH TO GET A
SIFY BROADBAND CONNECTION U ARE FREE TO CONTACT ME

there is a hidden limites is the unlimited packages.on on 32+kbps unlimited connection you will get a 6-7KBps normally. if you download more than 75 mb in a day your speed will dropped to 2-3kBps that is 18-24 kbps that is less thant the promised speed. And the thing is not mentoined in any palce in the sifybroadband.com website(terms and conditons) or by the CTO/BA.

this is confirmed by the BA of sify broadband Mr.surjeet.

    Hi All,

Iam from Chennai and having this stupid 32 k unlimited connection for the past 4 months. The speeds never went above 7k even while using download accelerator, even though it slips below 1 k more often.
    1) My neighbor who has a puny internal modem with bsnl dialup(10 paise/min) downloads stuff faster than my “broadband” connnection and often laughs at me.

    2) Half the time the network is down. I have got several 1 week compensatory packages from sify than I topped up thru sifymall.

    3) It is a blame war between sify and the CTO and neither is willing to take ownership.

4)You will have to run from post to pillar get things up and running.

    5) They have given a toll free no 1600 3333 30 to call when u have a problem. Try this number and you will get “This number does not exist”

    6) Call the support number and you will get a recorded message saying ” leave ur number and we will get back to you” which will never happen( I have tried this more than a thousand times)

There is more.pls feel free to get in touch me , my email is arunpr@gawab.com

Anybody from chennai in this board ?

Ankur, Keep up the good work buddy. We are here right behind you.

    Cheers

    Hello All
My name is Ajay Madan, from Bangalore and unfortunately a Sify Broadband Subscriber serviced thru a CTO. The CTO is Galaxy Krystal from the New Thippasandra locality.

I have not had my Broadband connection working from September 25th onwards. Sify told me that there are some commercial issues with the CTO. They also stopped answering my e-mails during this period. There was another instance when the connection downtime was a month. They got back to me recently and said that the issues with CTO is resolved. After such a horrendous service, I am not willing to continue.

The CTO’s service is very bad. Very frequently I have observed that I will not be able to ping the gateway. He takes a day or two to rectify even small problems. He charges me Rs. 200/- per month as his service charges for my Rs. 300/- package.

There is no point in having a connection where downtime goes upto a month or two and happens often. I have asked sify to refund my installation money as I am not happy about their service, but as usual no reply from their side. I have been writing to the Cust.Care head (Ajay Nambiar), but that has not helped.

What do you folks suggest that I should do now?

    Hey guys

i know you have been suffering from sifitis. If you guys are interested, i wrote my self a client which replaces the existing client. here are few of the features

    1) Autologin at startup
    2) Keep alive makes sure you don’t disconnect
    3) Launch Homepage Prevention
    4) Consumes 1/3 of ram
    5) Doesn’t require stuuupid stinger or mcaffe installs.
    6) Small Really Small in size
    7) Nice Interface :lol::lol:

If you want then i can release the client and its source under gnu gpl.

It wont increase the speed or the network outages,

but it makes login a lot saner.

I am from Hyderabad, I had taken a sify broadband connection of 256 kbps (1.0 GB) pack. the day I renewed the pack the franchisee has removed the Customer premises Equipment and I was not able to use it for a single day. I wrote several mails to all the officials but didn’t get any reply. In fact I requested them to refund my money…or give me connection. More than six months has passed without any reply from them. suddenly this month I received a call from Sify that my account has expired and one lady was counselling me to renew the account. when I narrated the whole story to her she replied that she will pass this info to her higher ups….nothing happened except every other day some lady from the sify call center calls me and reminds me about the expiry of the account. Some time back I thought to write to their Chairman Mr. Rahul Swaroop but thought that it will return the same i.e no reply.

But I have decided one thing, since I am the person in my organisation to decide on ISP services to all our branch offices….I will never ever recommend SIFY in our organisations. if they think they can make business out of these hard earned money then I can too keep their business off from my organistion.

any ways, best of luck to you and I will stand by you if required.

I am a Sify Broadband customer since a few months at DLF Chattarpur Farm Houses, # 2 Chameli Lane. The person who is supposed to be providing this to me is Mr. Shyam Mallick 9810027604. My cable connection frequently does not work and frequent reminders are necessary – the service is pathetic, specially since I have settled their bill in full (they charged me for laying the cable to my property)

Today is December 28, 2004 and the cable is down since 23rd Dec. Shyam Mallik has not been answering his cell phone. His associate is Pavan 9818188063. I have been speaking to him atleast 5 – 6 times per day during the past week – and each time he asks me “abhi bhee nahin chali” Sir mein abhi theek karata hoon, abhi ladka apke paas pohonch raha hai”. This kind of tomfoolery has been going on since the past five days and I am at my wits end as to what to do.

Guys looking for easy way to logon to sify can now download EasySify from http://easysify.sf.net

Its not a replacement for their client but is to be used w/ it. Suffice to say EasySify’s biggest adavantage is the “KEEP ALIVE” feature, which keeps the connection alive as and when it is available.

    Dear Sir,

I have been using Sify broadband internet for the past 5 months. This letter is to warn the new users about selecting their broadband internet provider. For the internet connectivity Sify provides the content while the local cable tv providers are in charge of laying the data cable to your house and maintenance. As a result to this a blame war originates between Sify and the local providers whenever a customer reports a connectivity problem. When you call the technical support in the evening or night, you will be answered by an answering machine and will be assured a callback within one hour which never happens.A complaint registered on 31 December(complaint number 1407264)regarding internet connectivity is still unresolved.Sify customer support team has got a bunch of ready parrot like answers whenever you call them.New customers who are looking for home broadband connection are hereby forewarned to stay away from Sify for the time being.

Also the kind of technical people they employ are really no technical. They always have just one answer.

SIFY is shying away from the court. They didn’t appear in the court on this date… next date is in April.

This points more to the fact that SIFY knows that they have indulged in Unfair Trade Practice. That’s why running from the court of Law

Though case effect can be seen…. as after receiving court’s notice in January, they have removed the word ‘SHARED’ from package details 😛 as Sushubh had mentioned. This was specifically asked in the relief at point 3.

And now whatever any person has to say or wants to support… the statement will be admitted in the court in the form of affidavit only.

The sad part is SIFY trying to escape, else in case of their presence, more things would have been sorted out. But in any case, the order will made otherwise too. And will be enforced, whether they appear in the court or not :thumb:

thats gr8 news… If I were u.. I would take this oppurtunity and slap a further notice of them trying to cheat me and charge them with Section 420 dat wud b the screwing in the balls dat Sify needs. This is not considered a contempt of court as the court has NOT ordered them to come. When you file an affidavit agst some1 it is upto the defendant to defend himself or not. Well there was once a case where in the person agst whom we had filed a case refused to come so we said this person has an intention to cheat us and that is why he is not appearing in court and a notice was sent by Madras HC and yet he did not appear we again filed a modified affidavit that despite the courts order he did not appear and we moved to attach the properties of the person and the court passed orders he got the biggest kick in his balls wen the court receiver went to seal his premises…. came running to us n settled the matter. 😀 I would certainly advise you to do the same …

    Hi,

I am very much fraustrated about Sify services and was thinking to file a case against them, since they are redirecting me to their homepage whenever login.

After visiting these pages, I now knew there are many people who are badly affected due to sify’s bad customer care service.

Is it possible to file a case against the ISO 9002 company who certified them the ISO 9002 certification for customercare? Does the ISO 9002 certificate issue company knows “What is the meaning of “Customer Care”.

I made several complaints but till date now reply from Sify. One time I paid for Way2Talk service and whenever I try to login I was receiving a message “Temporary Delay – Please try later”. I made several complaints, but did not turned back. After a month when I tried login, I received a message “Account Expired”. 😯

You should really have patience to keep the handset near your ear either to just listen to the music or just hear the recorded message “Your call is important to us, please be online, our customercare executive will answer shortly”. Finally you will be disconnected without talking to anyone.

Well in my case, after several phone calls, I got REFUND from Sify. A sify staff sent me the money that I paid.

Hell with Sify, they do not ready to look into the problem and solve, but they returned back my money.

Now I am really planning to sue the company for transferring me to their homepage whenever I am logging-in. I made complaint to Ms. Sarumathy, Mr. Ajay Nambiar, but nobody turned back and answered me that why the hell they are opening their homepage every time I login.

I would suggest everyone to make a online petition addressed to the ISO certification company, who issued the ISO 9002 certification for Sify’s Customer Care, and cancel the ISO 9002 certification.

Sify just use ISO 9002 for attracting customers and advertisements, they do not follow any rules related to ISO regulations.

    Hi Ankur
I really appreciate your bold step to take Sify to consumer court for their misleading advertisements
and claims that they are providing different internet connections which they claim to be “Unlimited”, which is false.

I am sending you the copies of the ‘Loggin window showing the details of the account which shows opening balance in Rs. for that particular day which reduces with the usage.

And for my this curiousity i asked the customer care executive that
…….. what if i consume all my balance in just 15 days , for a connection which is unlimited and have a validity for a month .

I was surprised by his response which was in a question to me that whether i have faced such problem ever 😯 which i said that i havent so far.

To my conclusion, i feel that they intentionally slow down the speed of the connection.

I am too facing the problem of slow speed and of connection breaking at frequent intervals.
I hope my this mail wouldnt get me into trouble with sify as recently i have renewed my account.

    Best of luck to you………

    Sify Sucks!!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁

I am from Pune & I have got Sify broadband connection 3 months ago and repenting since. The downtime is pathticaly high, as it is connection is unavailble due to power failures in my area (so 15 hrs a week minimum), but it is also unavailable for additional 10-15 hrs a week due to one of these problems –

    (1) Local gatetway unreachable
    (2) SAM server unreachable

The problem is usually the first one, and CTO is pathetically ignorant about all these issues and is least bothererd tho fix the problems. The so clled support people at his palce even can handle computer and are now trying to fix n/w issues. One Prashant told me that “renewal happens online” as if it was a technical breakthrough and then called up 4 times to ask my ID. The other was mesmerized to see ping -t and tracert commands. Thought my Windos 2000 was corrupt because he had to enter “cmd” in run box instead of “dosprmpt” on his win 98. Lots of stories…

Why the hell Sify can’t provide required training, support and infrastucture to CTOs??? Fortunately tech support has been helpful but the real problem is CTO and his lack of concern & knowledge.

Maybe, since I don’t need much of speed (I do telnet/ ssh client mostly) I haven’t had other issues. But frequent discoonection (even for 15 mins) logs me out of myremote server and is frusratingwhen you’re trying to do some work from home on the remote server.

Unfortunately there’s no broadband ISP in my are, though I have heard that Iquara is equally pathetic!

BTW, if you have Sify’s dial-up, it pops up a page when you log-in first. Then after some time the client pops up another two pages with sify links when you are not even expecting them. The sify dialer has ads in it? why the hell do I need to see ads while dialing from a dialer for a PAID connection??

Sify sure has lots of unfair business practises!

If they deduct 1 day for more than 6 hours do they allow you to carry over unused hours for the day when you don’t use conection? In that case instead of 1 month unlimeited the package should be called 30 * 6 hours, right?

Moreover, it’s annoying that they never sell package as such (nothing in packet), I got my 6 mths unlimited by just a phone call to CTO. All I have is a receipt. So they can change whatever conditions they want for online pages. So you accepting so called terms and conditions is like signing a blank paper. Unfair!!!!

BTW, how do you manage to get compensatory dial-up packs? I am spending like hell on dial up hors and phone bills despite having broadband.

I paid INR 3000 as installation charges, another 895 for 1 month, then 695, and now 3495 for 6 mths. Regretting…

I should have read this before.

Dishnet DSL was so nice, unfortunately Tata Indicom took it and screwed it up.

    Hi Ankur,
    Great step you have taken.

I use Sify BB (BroadBand). Ever since I have subscribed, they have disappointed in every manner. My friends from Australia just laugh out at it.

As of now I have Rs850 for 2months 48KBPS. When downloading a file of even 2 MB I get speed of 2kbp/sec and dont even think about downloading some large files. My dialup friends get faster download speeds.

To me, I should have chosen Hathway. I think they are better and atleast dont even use Broadband in their name :knocked:

Their call centre service is so bad. My local dealer is worst of the providers. Everytime I call them their phone is engaged.. I think they are using MTNL Dialup themselves :rotfl:

I am totally.. I mean just cannt say anything.. Frustrated.. Those local (not well established) ISP in my area who serve 2-3 buildings service better than these @#$#@$#@ !!! Swear..

All my wishes to you mate.. April is like 1 month ahead. Good Luck again.. Hope you win :guitarist:

Even now after clicking SAY IT. It takes good 3-4 seconds for all the page to load. Call that Broadband? Big mazaak hai yar.

Hi Manish, ya Pop-ups can be really annoying.
This is a good point that they don’t give you the terms and conditions in writing, just online, which are vague too.

Right Viru, this is possible that they may be using MTNL connection themselves, as it is better than SIFY :rotfl:

For SIFY, just to earn money is the aim. Everything else is really a mazaak 😎

    Hi everyone,

I am facing the same problems as u guys r. Misrepresenting the plan as ‘unlimited’ has fooled so many of us. I got the 64Kb unlimited pack in december 2004. I download movies , these are files in access of 1 GB and am facin lot of probems doing so.

    1) speed is capped to 32k once u hit 75 mb on a day
2)I am continuously logged off by their systems once i download more than 75 MB a day.

I reieve a call from sify on the march 2, informing the change in their policy. The guy told me that if i download more than 150MB in a day , my validity will be redused by a day. This so frekin pathetic. I told them to refund my security dposit of Rs.2000 as this was not in the initial agremen(Terms of service).
On enquiring this with the cto , he didnt have a clue. He called up a few TLs and they didnt know about this either.

    Feel free to contact me

    hey archer,

I e-mailed my comlaint to every guy on the list yesterday. This is what i wrote:

    To Date: 5 March 2005
    The Manager
    Sify Broadband
    Delhi

Subject: Application for REFUND of initial deposit for 64Kb UNLIMITED plan
    MISREPRESENTATION AND CHEATING

I purchased Sify broadband 64Kb UNLIMITED connection on the 30th December 2004 after reading the advertisement for the same. From the very first day I have found the service to be faulty.

I will now list the inconsistencies and lies advertised by your company:

    1) To start with, I was told by your helpdesk (Phone number 1600333330) that the connection provides downstream data at a constant rate of 64 kilobits per second. But this turned out to be a blatant lie. The speed is reduced to 24 kilobits per second once 75 Megabytes of data is downloaded in a day. This rule is not disclosed in any of your advertisements. The CTO did not mention this rule during installation and neither did the Sify call center in chennai. Neither is this mentioned in the agreement/terms of service given to me by Sify/CTO. Only after I complained about this very issue repeatedly was I informed by the helpdesk about this unfair practice.

    2) The service is unavailable for several hours in a day EVERY DAY. And in the last month there was a complete blackout for 3 days continuously. In the month of March, service has been unavailable from the beginning of the month.

    3) I received a call from your helpdesk on the 2nd and the 3rd of March, I was told that the rules have been changed and now there will be 1-day penalty (1 day deducted from 30 days validity) if I downloaded more than 150 Megabytes on a single day. This rule is unfair and it completely breaches the initial agreement given to me at the time of installation. This constitutes to MISREPRESENTATION AND FRAUD.

    4) I no longer want to be associated with LIARS who distorts and MISREPRESENT rules of service and CHEAT the customer.

I HEREBY DEMAND A FULL REFUND OF RS.2000 GIVEN AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION. IF I DO NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM YOU IN THE NEXT THREE DAYS I WILL BE FORCED TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT IN THE CONSUMER COURT.

By the way I am using my old Dial-up connection to send you this email, Sify Broadband, as usual, is unavailable.

    Mahesh

    ———————————————–

I got a call from the chennai call center. The guy (manager) told me that the lines are shared and thats the reason for the spee going down to 24k.

    Now here’s the interesting part:

    1) He denied that thers a cap on 75Mb on a day after whih the speed is capped to 24k. He simply said it was due to high traffic. I told him that the speed only goes down after I d/l 75 MB and otherwise i get 64k during daytime and he kept playin stupid.

    2) He said the new rule (1 day penalty on 150 mb download) will apply from march. I told him this was not in the original terms of service so amounts to fraud. I asked for a refund , he said promptly “ask the CTO for the refund “. He assured me a refund.

Then another guy called from the delhi office, he asked if the service was satisfactory and i told him to go F*** himself. He said i had ownloaded in access of 800 MB on the 7th of march, I told him the same. The max i could go on a 64k is 640MB [do the math with the 75 mb limitation] and i download much less than that. My downloads are less than 400MB a day.

To answer your qestion about the security deposit
This what i have paid so far:

    installation cost : Rs 2000

and the price for the 64k unlimited plan ie, Rs 695 per month

Now i have to say this , The CTO is not the best but he tries his best and he fixes all the harward problems (hub burnouts) quickly. I don’t have much of a problem with the CTO, but i hate sify for lying about the shared part and the other limitations.

    btw this is my email

    Hi guys,

Today I was facing dead slow browsing, not even 5KB yaar whereas I subscribed for 96KB and paid 995. I called many times to Sify customercare, an ISO 9002 certified customercare service, to lodge a complaint, as usual there were no answer and not even the message which says ” enter your telephone number we will call you back”.

Since, I knew about this sify people behaviour, as they only focus on their income without offering any good service, I tried the other option and selected “Broadband Renewal”, you know what, immediatly my phone has been answered . Then you all the rest :attack:

So please guys, if anyone wanted to talk to customercare section to lodge a complaint or wanted to fire anyone or facing any tension and think if you fire someone you will feel comfortable then select the “Renew Broadband” option, i bet immediatly your call will be answered. :stirthepot::attack:

I think Sify got ISP 9002 certification only for their Renewal section and not for complaints.

Hope this will help everyone, who try to contact customercare section and their call never being answered.

    Right Sushubh:!:
But it is really diificult to think, there will be any hidden condition attached to a product offered by an ISO 9002 company 😕

SIFY charges Rs 695/- for 64k unlimited plan, which is shared. Though Hathway and Hotwire have reduced prices and charge 660/- and 730/- respectively for 64 KB but speed is definitely received as promised.

Mahesh, but SIFY package details have the words “Shared” removed, then now how can they say, it is shared and speed will be effected 😕

    Hi guys,

I called today Sify’s World Class Customercare (as usual try 10 times and waste 30minutes then finally without success select the renewal option, receive immediate call from sify), and finally spoke to our “World Class Customercare Executive” and requested them to make modification to bind the MAc addresses and provided my laptop’s physical address, then I checked with our “World class Customercare Executive that when the Mac binding will be done” she promised me that she will require 7 working days  to bind the Mac Addressess 😆

I think sify should have been established in 14th century and still they are in the same stage, poor people yaar. God should give us more energy to deal with this kind of “World Class Customer Care Service”.

    Hi guys,

I do admit that I made a life time mistake that I subscribed to their “BROADBAND” service. Surely these asshole people making life so difficulty yaar. Because of their poor service and poor customer care I am not able to concentrate on my business and I do fear that I may get BP soon. Hence, I wanted to get off. It gives me a real surprise that how these people still surviving in the market.

I am already fraustrated by their service, and today I saw one advertisement newly placed by sify “Attention – revoulation on the internet…. fast speed”. I do not know how many people are going to be the victims.

Today since morning I called their customercare to just book some renewal option and wait for their call, but I am not even getting the line since it is continously busy.

then I called the local sify office in pondicherry, hell these people also do not answer the phone calls.

then I tried the mobile numbers of local sify technical people (2 numbers) both no answer.

then I called sify chennai office number – as usual “welcome to sify” then spoke to the operator and asked to connect with charumathy, she connected the line and atmost 20minutes I was hanging on the phone but no reply. Then later more than 10 times I called sify’s head office to speak anyone in broadband section but always the line is being forwarded “Business Development” section.

Then tried to contact charumathy on cellphone but no reply.

Again tried to contact worldclass customercare service, but still the line is busy.

“Are they in the preparation of closing the company?”

I do not understand how this group is listed on the NASDAQ and who provided them the ISO 9002, Really its a shame for the ISO 9002 certification.

Sify must amend their terms and conditions that before applying for broadband services, one should have a separate telephone connection for just keep calling them for complaints. Does anyone tried their customer care chat system at http://customercare.sify.com, i bet you will never get your problem solved.

These fucking people were showing the picture of bullet train to compare the download speed “Super fast browsing speed”, ary yaar the speed is not even the speed to compare with tvs50.

I do have doubts that whether this sify people are “wrong people in the wrong market or we are the wrong people with the wrong company”. I do not think expecting a good support is wrong. Evey customer will expect good support and service first from any company, but I do not understand what this sify people’s motivation or aim or goal and whatever you call it… But this sify people does not have any motivation or aim or goal ….. but they do have one aim / motivation / goal is “earn money” – these people are the real 420. They are cheating everyone in the name of “business” and we, the public, are the victims.

All their plans are motivated only on earning money, not customer satisfaction.

LIMITED DATA TRANSFER PACKAGES: Whenever you login they will force you to their website, you can first see a image of “Win” then redirect to sify.com and then open a popup window. These downloading of data will be calculated in your package and approx 200KB will be deducted from your account. So everytime you login automatically your account data transfer will be reduced.
Apart from the above, they also will show you the clip pictures like news, entertainment everything, if you click on the any clip, the pictures will be downloaded from their local servers (not from internet) every clip may have minimum size of 5MB to 15 MB, so without knowing youself they automatically deduct your account for Internet usage.
UNLIMITED PACKAGES: If you subscribe any package you cannot get the package speed what you have been paid for and moreover you can only download limited size of data then the speed will be more reduced.
Their Sify client is not user friendly, you cannot have any option over there, just change profile, password and see session details. You can check the EasySify software developed by individuals, you will have atleast 10-15 options for you to select and all the options are user friendly. I think sify does not have proper manpower to design a software like EasySify, even if they do, I am sure that they cannot provide the download status – if they provide download status, then they can count on their business close, because the end customer will not get the speed what have been promised by sify.
I have been to Singapore and UAE and experienced the world class customer care service with many companies.. but not like the poor customercare service being provided by sify.
I was believing that selecting a private company for any service would be good other than going with the government companies, since private companies can able to provide better customer care service compare with the government sector. After joining with Sify I realised that I am 100% wrong.
I would really happy to go to a consumer court to sue these people, since they are cheating everybody, but I do not have enough time to visit the lawyer and courts, that’s a problem. If anyone assist me then I would love to do that…
I just got the BSNL application for Data1 service. These people are advertising as “Be prepared to take off” – I think they are referring to flight. Sify people are comparing their service with Bullet train and now BSNL comparing their service with Flight.
Oh God save us from these so called cheaters. Please bless and pray for me, as I am going to take off with BSNL’s DataOne Service. Hope the flight will not blast on the air and will kill me…. I do hope that BSNL will comfort me with good speed and service.
If anyone has blood pressure and joined with Sify, then I advise them do not invite your death.
“Any company can earn good money, but cannot survive in the market unless it provides good customer support”
My advice to Sify: “Earn good business with honest, but not with cheating” I was having good opinion about Sify, but now Sify is the worst company that I dealt with in my life time and surprise how this company is still surviving and how long”
If you want to use Sify service, better get yourself relaxed and go to bed. Do not waste your time, you may give more trouble to your body and mind.
OK guys, just got to go to a doctor to check my BP (for your information, I got BP only after joining Sify, so be careful do not get tensed if your sify broadband is not working for 5 days and when you call the sify customercare and they say “I do understand your problem sir, please allow us 5 more days to get the problem solved”)

    Hi Manish,
First decide against whom you want to file the case, i.e. only against SIFY or also against LCO.

It is always advantageous to file against LCO too as this will enable the jurisdiction of nearest Consumer Court.

As you can file the case in the consumer forum under whose jurisdiction, the opposite party resides, carries on business or has branch office.

Then you need to find out the nearest Consumer Forum
or the other consumer forum, according to the jurisdiction. These are mostly geographically divided, like in Delhi we have 5-6 Consumer Forums.

You need to have the receipt of the payment made to SIFY, withour a receipt you cannot file the case in a consumer forum. Also collect the complaint numbers that SIFY Customer Care gave you, that will be helpful as evidence. Or call now and ask for a complaint number.

First make sure the above. Then will go further…

    Ankur,

I have made all payments to local CTO and do have recipts for them (around 8000 INR), and that’s what Sify told me. I had asked sify if I can visit thier office and get renewal, but they told me that all business to be done through CTOs.

I am a bit reluctant to fight against local CTO, because of 2 reasons –
    (1) They mostly contain ppl with “high nuicence value”, same ppl who collect contribution for ganesh festival, and likes. Generally, roadside taporis.
    (2) Secondly, I somehow symathize with local CTO, they are non-tchincal ppl; Sify used their reach to get more and more customers, and not providing hem wit any support. And uses smart arguments like “but you paid local operators, so ask them for money!!!”
These are he tactics whch piss me off and I want to teach Sify a lesson for fooling people who trusted them – including consumer like me and buusiness assocates like local CTO who must have been promised a good revenue sharing.

I am thinking. Guess I’ll contacting some consumer forum before I proceed.

I used theirs and my system got infected by all sorts of viruses. It survived for a month and then the hard disk crashed. I have to replace my hard disk. Same thing happened to my friend. SIFY Broadband should be named as SIFY Rubberband.
They only know to streach the customers nerve and patience. All their claims about their services and products are absolutely false.
how can a broadband connection have a d/u limit. it is like having Tap water being supplied thru river instead of pipes.
Something must be formulated to provide the customer true Broadband Speed connection with no caps or limits of any type or whatsoever.

Yeah I totally agree! Sify is the worst thing i’ve ever seen on Internet. I had opetd for their 64 kbps Unlimited Pack of 695 /-Rs. now, after using it for 6 months with whole lot of problems…one day they directly cut 14 days of my Monthly package. When i called and enquired, they said though we have a unlimited pack…it has a limit of 150 MB per day of download….which left me speechless..! So what the fuck do they mean by UNLIMITED when they have limitations? this is pure Bullshit. Also, once due to some problems my connection was down for 10 Days. When it started working ok i asked them for 10 days compensation. that is, I told them to put an 10 day extra period in my package to which they replied ‘ we cant compensate for more than 7 days’. Now u guys tell me what to do. Till date i thought only i had problems but after hearing about this petition I have got a lease of life. Thanks a lot!

most of the Cable operators don’t have sufficient powerback at their end. Power failure at CTO end disruppts internet to all the customers

And it’s now our duty as a consumer… to blow whistles against SIFY, by writing it to CNBC uncovered at uncovered@moneycontrol.com and also write about it… to all the persons you have in your address book. Spread The Word… let consumers know the truth :thumb:

All I can do is switch houses to the other side of town so I can finally get some decent service from a better provider ❗ I begged them to come over to our area and even offered to pay double (desperation, what can I say! I’m a home based worker. I lose major money for each hour of downtime):faint: They had to call Sify and ❓ ask permission ❓ and were refused. So we’re stuck with Sify until we move out. I have ALL of the same problems listed here, except my CTO does not charge me service or maintenance. On the contrary, he’s just unavailable when there are problems. His agent is somewhat helpful but again not always available. Sify apparently upgrades its machines and in doing so upgrades my package prices. It never upgrades its service, which continually disconnects itself and interrupts my downloads, chat conversations with my employers abroad, connection to post things online so that I have to refresh and reinput all the data from scratch. :banghead: Service is miserable. I have the D256 package, and I don’t pay a paisa to any CTO. I renew my subscription directly through SifyMall. Recently my CTO decided to act smart and disconnected me. Predictably, Sify sided with the CTO. I lodged an FIR against the CTO in the local police station and sent a pre-litigation notice to Sify by email. My connection was restored faster than you can imagine, and I suspect that now I get much service than you guys do.

Guys you got to get organized and stand up for your rights. You should be willing to spend some time on this and money, not only for your own sake, but for the sake of improving the general state-of-affairs we are forced to live with. Things are so bad for all of us only because we tolerate anything and everything. Don’t crib, stand up for your rights, and fight back collectively.

You’re doing what I’ve been wanting to do for months now. There is another thing that you may look at – Sify doesn’t mention on their website that “Maintenance charges are extra”. Secondly, they claim that their rates are inclusive of service charges, while the LCO claims otherwise. Sify doesn’t mention a fixed rate for the services, and the customercare executives tell you that maintenance charges are extra.

Ravinder:!: Why not register an FIR with your nearest Police Station.

Gautam is very right :thumb: … an FIR with Police is very effective against such culprits.

This is really what is required….

“if it can be turned into an all india case against them, maybe even get it in the newspapers” – Ravinder

“Guys you got to get organized and stand up for your rights. You should be willing to spend some time on this and money, not only for your own sake, but for the sake of improving the general state-of-affairs we are forced to live with. News dated April ’05: Sify Ltd has reported a net loss of $7.05 million for the year ended March 31, 2005, as compared with $8.51 million in the previous fiscal.

I think it is better for the company to close down when it is already incurring such huge losses… than try to minimse losses by indulging in Unfair Trade Practices and harassing customers 😛

I moved from Sify to AirTel for the 2 months, I never called them for any complaint about DSL connection and did not face any downtime. If I call Airtel customercare for any query, my call is being answered within a minute. Now I feel peace of mind with AirTel.

Please take all action against Sify, hope they will come up with a message “We at Sify, are unable to provide a better broadband service for our customers and we tried to cheat them but they forced us to close our business permanently”:guitarist::party: – when they will announce this message yar???

    A couple of things, Ankur:
I’m sure you’re aware that the package name has been changed to ‘Family Pack’ from ‘Unlimited’. Sify Customercare has also started saying that the connection will be fixed within 12 “working hours”, now, instead of 12 hours.

They have also upgraded the packs, as of this month, and are charging Rs.50/month more than before. The Rs.450 pack, which was earlier minimum, is now Rs.495, and 48kbps has been upgraded to 64kbps. While this does entail an improvement in speed, it is not restrictive practice to change a plan and force a consumer to pay more?

From what I’ve learnt, Sify does maintenance only after the CTO point, and the consumer is at the mercy of the CTO from thereon. Since yesterday was 15th August, the CTO was shut, and the connection problem was not addressed.

What I want to know from you is – how does one prove that one is a customer of Sify if one doesn’t have a bill from Sify for the same. And is there any means to check case logs online? I couldnt find it.

I made 19 complaints last month, three already in two days this month.

Tired of waiting “for” Sify Broadband.

I lodged a complaint against this but no action has been taken till date although I was assured that my complaint would be resolved within 24 hours.

This proves that Sify is indulged in unfair trade practices and they should be punished severely in order to save the interest of the consumers.

    Hi,
Sify is the worst service provider.I am really pissed of with there connection. After taking the connection i only got frustration ,tension and never got correct connection.

    Problems with sify:

1 Not even a single day connection will be there fully
2.My mobile bill for the complaint has gone more then the monthly recharge amount.
3.The local operator ramesh is an a** ho**.
4.After so much of complaints they will come and fix it up which will work only for couple of hours after that you should go again and call them up and waste you talktime more then 10 rs only for the hope that you can get connection after 2-3 days which will work for another 2-3 hours.

There is local operator Ganesh Cables(Rajajinagar,Bangalore). Please scold them on phone 94482817940.i dont know how to sue them up.I have lost lot of money because of these people. Please let me know how can i fill a case against them.if any body already filled case then that would be great.I am from Bangalore and my number is 9845270306.you can contact me at sipoyraj@yahoo.com They really made my life hell.

Does anyone is out there to help me out.I am ready to file a case against these people.
I have taken connection from last two months and not even a single day the connection was proper.

I am quite happy with my Sify connection actually. Have had it for a year. (Was eaqually happy with my Airtel BB as well.) All I can say is that if you have a problem, then ditch the provider. Its not that you don’t have a choice. If the company has made false promises, then take them to a consumer court for being misleading.

    Plan 64 Kbps – “UNLIMITED”

Reality – 150 Megs a day for 30 Days – If you Exceed 150+25 Megs they reduce a day – so 200 Megs reduces 2 days

So its cheating – If they reduce a day for which I am entitled 150 Megs – That too gets reduced to 25 Megs – If you understand What I mean.

So Fair Calculation for 64 Kbps CHEAT plan is

    150 Megs x 30 = 4500 Megs a month – WHICH IS NOT UNLIMITED.

They should clearly specify that it is Approx 4.5 Gigs – No MORE downloads after that – IT IS NOT UNLIMITED.

Did TRAI or some other telecomm regulatory body put a mamimum limit cap to sell this package as UNLIMITED.

It still lies in purview of Consumer Courts unlike They said earlier –
Ankur – Just show them this calculation – This will get you more miles then you can expect.

Second, As Amit Said – Non Renewal of Account
Thirdly as somebody said – SELLING RENEWALS without Receipts.

If you care for more – lemme know.

Hello, This one is same in series –

I recently bought a laptop – I HAD to use different IP Address, Different username, and had to bought a NEW plan to go online.

Well, then Everything messed up. SIFY did something real serious and damaging.

Technically speaking – In their new client – They have SO- CALLED Firewall . In layman’s term – FIREWALL SHOULD BLOCK ALL PORTS. Sify had me disabled me Norton (F***ers) and somebody remotely managed my computer through those open ports – and My Email addresses were transmitted without me knowing.

Dont ask me How I know it.
Simply go back to Consumer court and tell them they are delivering product – which poses security threat and data loss threat.

And Then we have got somebody here who says his internet is just working fine – right . That guy is pure happy – Sure – JUST ASK HIM TO DISABLE ALL HIS FIREWALLS AND stick to SIFY FIREWALL.

And rest assured – Guranteed after his week – He will have the best collection of worms on internet. Its personal gurantee.

It that guy is really so contended with Sify – I hope disabling all his firewalls and posting his IP Address wont hurt much – right – because he will always have sify to protect.

Sify wont run with root account on Linux/unix . Its a clear security threat. Want more details on that ?

I guess if its some sort of Misrepresentation like now-a-days Hotwire has also started cheating in the name of “SHARED” packages, in such cases… Section 418 (Cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect) will be attracted.

And in case, its just poor service. Then you need to file the complaint with Consumer Forum for Deficiency in Service. Good Luck :thumb:

    HI,
    Nice job.

I raised my complaint about frequent disconnection on 2nd september and the customer care cell have given me the complaint number 2399635. I have been complaining almost everyday since September 2nd that I’m not getting interenet or I have packet loss of upto 70%. Yet no action has been taken yet.

Their Hyderabad Technical head Mr. Srinivas Chary has promised on 11th September to extend the valdity of my account but yet no action have been taken yet. When I called the customer care again today to find out what they have done to increase the validity period, they simply to my chagrin notified me that complaint is closed and the issue is resolved. What about the the time I lost due to non availability of the service? Who will compensate me for that? I already note to Times Of India once and yet sify has taken no action yet. Pathetic Lousiest broadband in the whole world.

Can we start a online petition saying why sify is the lousiest service?

Just checked out your new website –
Remove Unstatic IP – It doesnt holds much water –
you will spoil entire sport with this point.

Moreover you can make new point with heading “Sify Client”
Sify client sends heartbeat signal to specified ports on Sify Servers and listens on Specified ports.
Anything goes but listening on my computer ie is acting as incoming server – can be readily exploited with buffer-overflow and fragmented packets. And Firewall doesnt offer much protection in that case. Since the ports are explicity punched open in Firewall.

P.S. The link provided for “Teach Yourself….” is not my site. Just the link has been provided at the bottom as http://www.sifycase.org

    Pradeep,

    You know what …
I had same problem, Called Sify at least 10 yup – Over ten times -I have got different instance/case #’s. And to my dismay – I found all kinda crap on Sify Customre care website – For example – Sify Tech/Local LCO says he Called me – *** They never ever called me – Till date**** STATUS – CLOSED ????

Local Cable Operator said – My complaint had been attended to **** Nobody has ever showed up – leave alone a phone call *** STATUS CLOSED – ?????

Gimme a break from these blatant lies.

So, What I did – Got it disconnected after I had called 100 Times. That was the best I could do – Calling Sify and waiting for their tech to attend my call – approximately takes 5 minutes – and describing my problem from scratch and none of those Assholes understand a word of english – neither do I sometimes … since connection is exceptionally bad and to top it their tele-representative is often at times a non techie and has heavy south indian accent.

So Entire process may take approx 20 minutes – Since they put me on hold for over 10 minutes on majority of the calls to CHECK STATUS.

    So – 20 minutes x 100 Calls – 2000 Minutes computes to 2000/60 hours = 33.33 hours on phone

Spending Approx 33 hours on phone and to top it I had to pay for phone bill. I dont think I deserve this kinda service. I pay for internet connection and have to pay my phone bill and have to spend time – to what end result – A connection which doesnt works.

I switched over to MTNL – Agreed its bit expensive – and once in – say 15 days it wont connect – But I am happy. Because I works the way it should. I pay only for what I use – Fair enough – No False promises of unlimited usage. Speed is good – 256 Kbps. Do I ask more.
With MTNL – I can check my usage. At least I am not agonized by non working internet connection.
I have lost quite some money with Sify . The Sify CEO should be hanged by his balls.

Rahul, I thought you were talking about the Flash presentation… :smokin:

Yes, http://www.sifycase.org is my site but it only represents… what was submitted in the court and therefore can’t be changed 😎

I register that domain… because some Web-Domain company was offering a Domain free for one year…

I am also using MNTL… no disconnection problems and no more calls to LCO again and again, it’s cool.

MTNL’s ‘Night Unlimited’ Package is great… unlimited night download @ 256 KBps takes my doanloads to 3-4 GB in a month 🙂

HOW I GOT SIFY TO GET TO WORK

It was quite simple, at the end of it all. 19+ disconnections in a month, plus poor customer service. I had been facing problems for two months – frequent disconnections, et al. The Technical team in my city had been sleeping – never contacting me. The CTO was useless, and kept lying. He blamed Sify. Sify blamed him. Finally, I’ve hit upon a procedure that works:

    Building the base:

    1. Take a complaint number for every complaint that you make.
    2. Complain separately for complaint against both CTO, and technical team.
    3. Ensure that you take note of date, time etc. And take names of each customer care executive each and every time you call, and not dates and times for each, as well as their responses. Preferably use an Excel sheet for this purpose

    Creating a database:
Google for “@sifycorp.com”. Take a note of as many Sify email addresses as you can. Get more email addresses from, perhaps, this page.

    Hit them hard
Write a detailed email, with each and every complaint detailed. Send it to each and every one of those email addresses. Some might bounce, but a lot will not.

    Follow up incessantly
If there’s no response in three days, send another mail, with reference to the previous one. Again, type out your grouses and tell them that you’re going to inform everyone you know that sify sucks.

Again, if no response, mail everyone and tell them you still haven’t received a response.

I didn’t need to mail more than once. I got five calls, two from Chennai, two from my home city, and one from somewhere else. Twice, the technical team visited me. I got compensation for time lost. It worked. I’ve only had a disconnection twice, for three-four hours, over the last one month.

unrest cure – Dunno – If you are from sify.

What do you think a normal customer would do ?

In my case I was not even able to go online.
So How would I search for sifycorp emails?

And keeping track of all case #’s Dates, times, tech representatives – making calls, sending mails after three days – doesnt make much of preferred choice.
And keeping track of 19+ days when you could not go online …
Its simply asking for too much for a Normal internet user – I bought internet connection and it should work outta box – I am not asking for more.

And Sify behaviour is consistent with all customers so I know I am not the isolated one here.

As I read a few cases here –

Firstly – Upon “successul” connection (Its a big acheivement if you get connected) Sify client launches Sify home page and Sify popup which is approximately 200 KB of Data (which is reduced from your account)- Calculate it for 30 days
    – 200 KB x 30 Days – 6000 KB
    – 6000 Kb / 1024 = 5.8 Megs a Month

So – Approximate is 4.45 Gigs less 5.8 Megs.

And When this 5.8 Megs is calulated for all Sify BB customers – Its big number

If Sify has 1000 Customers in Delhi –
it is 5.8 Megs x 1000 Customers = 5800 Megs that translates to approx 5.7 Gigs of Data just for Delhi –
Calculate it for rest of cities with actual Customer #’s figure will be far higher.

    ——

Somebody else said that Sify ENGINEER came to install Broadband and he was fascinated to see ping -t 🙂

In my case this ENGINEER went up the Electric pole and did Ethernet cabling and all what not . This ENGINEER tried to ping local server – without even specifying a static IP address – when in EFFECT LCO was using private static ip’s.

    ———

World Class Customer care – anybody who is interested I can give you my User Id and password – and they can checkout their World class customer support website. So called Technical Officers are rude – one even said – this is the way we work – If you are not able go online Its your problem – I said Okay , I will take the blame rather readily [happily] Since – It was me who made crappy choice of getting sify.
    —-

Internet renewals were a lot hassle – that motherfucker LCO would come and ask me money WITHOUT EVEN RENEWING the connection. Gimme a break.

They Charged my credit card and never ever renewed it … 🙂
    —
Speed of 64 Kbps – I have used dialups and broadband abroad – and TRUST ME – their dialups are faster then this fucked up broadband – and are cheaper as well. My Cellphone had WAP access which again was lot faster than this crap.

    —
somebody rightly said sify is not capable of developing broadband software – Since Jan 2005 they had version 2.03, 2.5,2.51,2.6,2.7,2.71,2.8. Just proves they know their software just doesnt work. Probably they have chinese programmers.

SIfy will do well in China – where they have restricted internet access. It may do well in India but will do exceptionally well in Bihar and like states.
    —-
Rest else is hisory as probably everybody here got sify disconnected – so did I.

Meantime – By the time I got MTNL –

I had the eternal pleasure of not able to go online – that too with out Sify.
Man – that was releif – I didnt have to pay for being Offline.

And I spread the word – and none of th people I know has Sify. I feel proud of job well done – job of preventing them from agony of World class customer care.

If you try it and it works for you – GOOD! If it doesn’t – TOO BAD! I’m just trying to help other people who’re pissed off with Sify.

You can either take them to court like Ankur, you can make life hell for them by doing what I did, or you can do what you’re doing. We’re all normal customers here, and we’re all pissed off. Just that some of us are looking for solutions to this problem. Whatever, man. Just don’t get abusive by calling me a sify person, okay?

And If you could tell – you made their life miserable – This SIFY connectivity was entirely UNFORESEEN – I do not want to equate it to something unrelated or give analogies.

Plain and Simple – I buy a connection – It should work – there should be no condition which implicitly says – Its either Sify’s Life as Hell or My Life as hell.

Dude – I’m not disagreeing with you. I say exactly what you’re saying, to the customercare people.

If my connection isn’t workin, I’m going to do something to make sify get to work. I can either sit at home, and keep calling them up and getting the same answers, or I can make a lot of noise by going to a cybercafe and mailing everyone. I’d rather force them to work than say that “It should work” and not do much else.

C’mon – whoever’s reading this…make some noise, people. Get these sify guys to take you seriously. mail them, mail everyone. Don’t just get taken for granted. Here you are, all angry about a connection that isn’t working, and there’s Sify, building a brand image by spending money on advertising instead of improving the quality of their service. The only way you can put an end to this is by making noise. Mail the sify people. Google for sify addresses and mail everyone the problems you’re having with sify. Mail everyone you know, and tell them not to take a sify connection. Start a campaign. Don’t just sit there!

Ankur, why not start an online petition to be sent to TRAI and Sify?

I paid Rs.1000 advance in July ’05 & my connection was activated in Oct 1st week. In the last one week, I hv been able to use the service only once. Rest of the days the error code BB101, unable to connect to local network greets me. Complaints to the customer care are of no use (somebody said parrot like answers, bingo). These morons should be taken to consumer court. I hv now stopped payment of the balance amount & even willing to forego the original Rs.1000 instead of continuing with this shitty organisation Sify. I am planning to move consumer redressal forum soon…anyone willing to join?

    Ankur,
On further consideration of the matter my lawyer and I have decided that there is no need to approach the HC. In fact a writ petition might even be inappropriate. We have decided to seek an injunction at the lower civil court. I have been disconnected since Oct 20 without any warning or prior intimation, and apparently that is enough cause of action. Sify’s primary rationale for not responding would have to be non-payment of “maintenance charges”. But no one has ever demanded maintenance charges from me, and I cannot be expected to pay any amount for which so far no bill has been raised!
Anyways, my primary aim is to get the service charges struck down, so that you guys can then go after them and seek refund.
Had you not made your case so elaborate and technical, perhaps you too would have had your way at the Consumer Court. My case is very simple: I have made payments but not received the services paid for. However, I don’t want to go to the consumer court because I won’t get any immediate relief there. Best, Gautam.

    Hi,

I’m Jayakumar. I’m a 2 month old customer. I have a nightmare with sify broadband connection. I have 96Kbps connection. I spend 1500 for installation and 795 for unlimited 96kbps connection. I didn’t know 96kbps is 12 kilo bytes speed connection they said finally about that. dialup is working at 8 kilo bytes and even shoots up after mid night.

Whenever i log call regarding connectivity issue they didn’t call us back to inform that connection is up. How the customer know when connection is back alive. So the bandwidth loss for us.

They never give compensation days for that. Even 4 hrs connectivity issue they not accounted. We have to call and beg each and every time.

If you see in early morning the unlimited download works in 3 kilobytes. Some time it is maintaining 0kbps at ground level.

I complained about that and they ask to set ethernet connection speed, spyware, virus software and ask to format.
They promised that issues with bandwidth low in night time will be bring to notice of technical support. Even after 5 complaints no body turn to call back for solution.

12 kilo bytes per seconds means 420 MB in 10hrs time in night but it is downloading 300mb even worst sometimes 200mb and below.

Wait a sec, 795 for 96kbps unlimited??? Dude, honestly, with a crappy provider like Sify, you’d be risking not only fucked up customer service, but your health as well. I am on 256 kbps Night Time unlimited (Rs.595) for some time now. Even though it works without any issues (most of the time), it is still way far from what I think we should be getting. At this price, they should be giving me 24hr unlimited deal.

And at 700 something, we should be getting 512kbps 24hr unlimited. But what can I say, it’s India. No matter how much hype they create in media about India taking over China and US, at this rate, I consider that total bullshit.

I just got a DataOne-250 connection with a type 4 modem as a standby to help me tide over the times when my Sify connection is down. 250 per month for 400 MB. The modem is Rs. 2000 and has 4 LAN ports, one WiFi, one USB. The WiFi is very handy and works very well with my laptop … at least so far. Download speed is around 20 kBps. If you don’t need WiFi you can get a modem for 1200.

I agree desmasac – SIFY took toll on my health. I am programmer and need to access web 24 hours a day – irrespective what place I am.

On Weekends – I used to get so mad when sify would not work. I was almost on the verge of stroke.

But I am happy – since I got Sify disconnected – Trust me its breeze now.

    No more anxiety breakdowns.

I recently got Airtel broadband as well – 999 unlimited for 256 Kbps. – 200 Calls free.

Still evaluating it – But sure works better than Sify – which offers Rs.699/-[something in this range] for LIMITED Downloads. Sify literally took me for ride.

Airtel – I have heard is good… but not available in my area.

I am happy with MTNL… after they doubled the Data Download limit from this month… so I get 1 GB data for the day plus night unlimited for Rs 670/- @ 256 Kbps !

And the biggest PLUS is – No Disconnections 🙂

Here is one email from some old sify user… Mr. Vishal Singal from Chandigarh, in reply to some one thinking of suing Hathway:

“Anyhow, now I got to read about someone filing a case
against an ISP for deficinet services!

Well, I was the first one in India who had filed a
case against SATYAM INFOWAY in Chandigarh Consumer
Court somewhere 4-5 years back for deficiency in
services of not providing dedicated 64K leased line as
    was in the agreement.

But we did not get justice from the forum. We appealed
in the National Commission, appeal was also admitted
but later we decided to opt out.

The main problem is that the judges do not understand
the abc of working of internet. How are you going to
prove that the ISP is not giving you the dedicated
    speed and bandwidth.

The main issues which will crop in are:

    1. Do you have an agreement wherein which the ISP is
bound to provide you the DEDICATED BANDWIDTH.

    2. if yes, then the log report, obviously from your
end in support of your claim.

    3. even if you got all the evidence in your favor,
dont be happy, you will not get any justice in the
consumer court as i had already mentioned, the judge
/bench comprising of 3) sitting on the other side
might dont know the abc of functioning of Internet.
how are you going to let them understand that the ISP
    is deficient.

So my dear friend will simply suffer more mental agony
and financial loss by filing a complaint in the court
which will drag for more than 2 years consisting of
more than 24 visits to the court and still the ISP got
a right to APPEAL and again the same!

So the moral of the story is to simply change your ISP.

wish you a happy surfing :)”

Seems this was the reason for the District forum to dimiss the matter. But still I will keep on trying, now the case is at State Commission level… as it contains more grounds, and five years have been passed since the above matter.

Further, after the case reaches Supreme Court, there will be no right to appeal available with any party 😉

Though I know of one other person… who did won the case against SIFY BroadBand for deficiency in service in the same Shalimar Bagh District Consumer forum in 2004.

In any case, alternatively, we need to look into other possibilities also like approaching Media, TRAI, etc :thumb:

And this completes 300 posts here

I request any ad everybody [Who are currently subscribed to SIFY – If anytime – any of you – who have problem with SIFY – Please make a proper log of – If possible ask the service ENGINEER to sign it and if possible get the Stamp of franchisee/SIFY Operator – If that was fixed – And If there were any downtimes.

I just want to profile – If downtime is common with all the subscribers with particular Area/locality.

Since SIFY is catering to corporates as well – If the corporate conenction speed suffers – they sometimes disconnect/reduce speed of small time subscribers using managed switches.

Should I be happy because of the fact of not being the only victim of Sify or be sad for the fact that so many people are aggrieved.
Sify has made my life hell in the last two months since I got my connection and forum like these are good relief. Great work guys!! I have following points to be make,
    1) Can we drag-in the local cable operator as he being the sole person responsible to see the line is maintained. In our area they charge Rs50/-pm each subcriber as line maintainance charges which makes it madatory for them to keep the lines maintained.
2)Also as everybody rightly pointed out the line is shared and we are told that we get the exclusive desired speed.
3)Also the installation charges which the local cable operator collects differs from customer to customer and I was told the whole money goes into his pocket without any check by Sify, which gives rise to many illegal connections and hence loss to the ultimate customer.

Guys lets make it a lesson for Sify. Lets make them realize that in todays time you just cant fool around with the customer esp the lawyers.

I have read all the comments put up by users here. I live in Maharashtra and have been a satisfied Sify customer for about 2-3 months now. The connection has its occasional glitches but that is to be expected in a poor country like India. Overall, I think the connection is not SO BAD (I will not call it good either).. but definitely, they should provide dedicated bandwidth, remove the 150 MB restrictions etc. Anyways, in the scenario of area monopoly by ISPs, we don’t have much of a choice. And the kind of Unfair Trade Practices, SIFY was indulging in last year, you doesn’t seem to have an idea. If people had kept quiet and didn’t raise their voice, maybe you would’ve been a victim too ❗

Hi,I’m from Chennai.I bought a 64K “Unlimited” (f*** them) package 5 months back.I have all the above problems that u ppl face. Additionally i’m surprised at someone here saying that speed is fine.Man i would say it is far far slower than my old tata indicom dialup(Yes it is).
D/L speed -> 5k with Download accelerator plus
    Browsing speed -> Highest 4 kbps,Lowest 50 bps

    Here is my usage history
First Month: I’m a happy owner of a UNLIMITED 64k SHARED connection.(The installation cost Rs.3500 seems a bit high).
I get a good 10Kbps speed.Happily started downloading apps, music etc.Since the conn was ‘unlimited’, i decided to download all day and night.
15 days gone, i get a call from sify asking me when should i renew. I get shocked, tell them 1 month isnt yet over. The other f***ard coolly says sify never offered unlimited conn to any1.Its called ‘Family pack’ and the bottom of the web page, its mentioned that 150mb/day is allowed(almost unnoticeable, that too once u see the ‘unlimited plan’ tag on the left it gets worse).Reluctantly i agree.

Second month: I dont have connection for first 5 days.(Local N/w failed,Sify server down etc..,).Finally i connect and is shocked to see the speed reduce to nearly 1/2 of the speed i used to get.(WTF)Called CC via mails(must have sent atleast 15 to diff ID’s),SMS,hotline – NO F**KING RESPONSE.Atlast i get the response that since a lot of ppl in my area got sify,my speed got down(LOL, i know of no one in my area having Sify),but a few corp offices have come up.I’m being very careful about not crossing 140MB. But even then,2 days deducted in my validity.Shocked,I refer to the usage hsitory, and find that my account has been used at times when i would not have even used my pc(i only connect from 3pm to 10 pm,but between 9-1 am my account has been used).Complaints have no effect, so i pay the bill.

Third Month: Speed drops even further(I have reached the speed that i mentioned in the top of this post).I’m thinking hard about reverting to my indicom dial-up.

Fourth Month: This F**king OfficeScan they offer has allowed lots of worms and spyware into my sys.I format my HDD.Almost the end of my comp. boo hoo

This is my history. My 250hr dial-up package is over.So I have no other choice except BB.And there is no other ISP other than Sify in my locale. So can u ppl please tell me whether this asshole ISP’s 256 K,1GB limit is good enough(Speed, especially) or i should move to a different locality. 🙁

    1) I had logged in the call with Wednesday evening 11/23/2005. I had given my complete login details which are as follows: apandey1.
    2) I had called again on Thursday morning to tell them that the problem has not been fixed and they needed to follow up which they said that they would. I had told them that the network was not available and my work was urgent and I needed to work from home.

    3) On Thursday evening also, I logged in the similar complain. My network problem was persisting and I had urgent work to finish. Each time I logged in a call, someone from the helpdesk would always come up and tell me that the problem would be resolved next day. I do not understand what is the use of a 24 X 7 helpdesk is when the problems would be resolved on the promised date.

    4) I again followed up with the helpdesk and logged in a call. They said that the turn-around time would be 4 hours. I returned home to realize that the problem was still persisting.

    5) Until Friday, I had made around 6 calls and there was no effective communication or response from the Sify team.

    6) On Saturday, I had to call up the business associate who was responsible in selling the broadband to me and he said that he would look in the matter and send the engineer from local office by 5 pm. On the same day, I had made the customer service center one more call and the call was attended by someone who was very rude and ineffective. The business associate named as Prince the person who had sold me the broadband package and he informed me that the customer call center is not a very prompt service providers instead I should contact him directly whenever I needed to get any help. I agreed and then waited for the engineer to be sent to my place. The engineer turned up at around 4:30pm and he was not able to do anything. The engineer named Sandeep was not able to detect any problem and was only saying that he would not be able to help as it was a problem with the cable and the cable operator was not available for his help

    7) If there was a problem in the cable network which is generally a sub contractor in these cases, why was there not a backup plan for the failure in the cable network? If your engineers are not able to handle the problems related to cable network then it should be ensured that there is a cable network person who tags along with the engineer if there is problem in the network. At least this could be made out that the sub contractors are following their service level agreements. After all they are your employees or service providers. The engineer who was not trained enough to handle the calls left my home without being effective and telling me that he would be able to fix the problem by 11 on Sunday morning.

    8) By this time, I had made 11-12 calls talking to various different people who just kept me promising that the problems would be resolved and would be taken care of by Sunday morning. Other person with whom I conversed was Atheek who was the retail manager and was superior to Prince and he said that he would surely look into the matter

    9) On Sunday morning, I waited until 11:15am and gave Atheek a call who had promised to get the matter resolved. He told me that he would call me back within 5 minutes and let me know of the status. Neither did he call me and nor did he receive my calls through out the day. Clearly there was no status update and he was not able to get the thing fixed . I must have called him and prince at least 10 times during the whole day which can be checked against his number from the e phone bill which I would be sending. I do not understand how Sify employs managers who do not have the basic curtsey to reply to customer calls or handle them properly by sending them adequate status updates. It is the onus of service provider to keep their customers updated even if the problem is not resolved. What hurt the most was the whole callous attitude by which the whole thing was handled.

    10) At around 3pm, I called up Prince who told me that he would send someone a senior engineer from his head office. This person Prince also asked me to call Atheek and pressurize him to help me. How am I supposed to call to various people and put pressure on different people? It is not my job to call up different people. I have paid for the service and the service provider should pay for every kind of service. It should not be expected that the consumer would keep following up with so many different people wasting time, effort and money. He asked

    11) Everyone at the other end of the phone seems to lie as they did not do any of their promised work. That caused me harassment. Again

    12) I was always told that the matter would be resolved within a day’s time. By the end of Sunday after waiting at home for 6pm, nobody turned up. Neither was the problem resolved nor did anyone take the responsibility of calling up and telling me about the status. Over and above, I was made to spend weekend at home expecting that if some body would turn up I should be at home to get the work done. I was feeling totally harassed. I had made up at least 30 calls by that time.

    13) At 6 pm when I called Prince again, he gave me the number of JVS Network owner some Mr Harish Vichare and asked me to contact him. This harish Vichare is the owner of the network provider to the Sify for my area ( Govandi, Mumbai) . How the hell can a business associate ask his/her customer to call up Harish Vichare to get an idea about the problem.

    14) Come Monday, there was no help., No one communicated and the problem remained un resolved

    15) On Tuesday 11/29/2005, I had called up the call center to tell them that there is a new problem and that there is an IP address clash.

    16) Effectively the problem has not been resolved till date

    17) There has been no effective communication or follow up from your side.

    18) People are reckless, ill mannered and they do not help

    19) My time and money and energy has been lost. The people at Sify have gone to various limits by asking me to call various people so that I can follow up on my status. This should have been taken care by the service provider. There should have been effective communication and the customer should be kept in the loop and the status should be updated from time to time. If any work was going on this matter then there should be communication from Sify to the customers that the work is being done and should enlighten the clients about the status of the computer.

Vishal do agree with you to a certain extent, but broadband service is more location specific. At some place you might get takers for Sify only beacuse the local cable operator is good enough to maintain the line.
Our fight is against Sify for not having proper control over the local cable operator, for having inefficient staff(this is not a baseless allegation I have gone through it and I am sure many ppl have expd this),for making false commitments, for not providing proper service( as it the service we pay for and nothing else).
I also agree when you say there can be occassional glithes. No one expects 24 hours connectivity, at least not in India at this point of time, but you will appreciate the fact that many ppl have had absolutely no access for weeks(I being the one) inspite of they making repeated complaints. So their reaction is justified.
But it was good to know that there are satisfied customers of Sify, at least we rest can hope to be one someday.

The Sify guys are perfectly aware of what kind of service they are providing. They are also aware of the widespread dissatisfaction among customers. I think they are also aware of the fact that with competition from BSNL etc. their days are numbered. If you go down to their office, you will just get the same kind of rubbish that you get on the phone. The Nacharam police has already filed an FIR against them on the basis of my complaints. Let us get together and meet the concerned DCP and see if we can get a few more criminal cases started against Sify. Bad press is what is going to hurt them the most. Mr.Gautam, you said it! Bad press is the most appropriate way to get Sify down.In fact it will make them realize the fact that they just cant roam around sct free.
Competition will play its part and Sify will be losser in that front for sure, but what we should do is make people aware that Sify doesnt equate to serious business.
It may not affect Sify immediately but slowly and gradually it will work wonders.Considering the number of aggrieved customer, we have a very strong reason to do it.
If you people are going to approach the police you can informally show them the comments on this site so that will have its effect.

Want to know about sify Fraudband customer service centre? here:

    * Sify BB customer service is in Tidel park – chennai in their HQ.
    * Hierarchy : Head for customer care > Assistant manager(1) > Group leader (3 guys) > Floor incharge (7)>
Agents to take calls (50 persons)[iam one of the ex-agent] – Total comes to 62.
    * All the agents are temperory staff not working for sify.
    * Call flow per day is 3500 in weekdays – 2500 in weekends, sify broadband has 1,00,000 registered
customers(No body know how many of them are get connected!) So nearly 4 % of the customers are calling every day !
    * You called them for problem, then if you are not called again with in two days – Their tool will automatically close your case.

    * sify is one of the Nasdaq listed company ! – So all we can do is rate them as much as bad and drag their share price to ground.

If you call them and agent promises followup later [say two days] case automatically gets closed – later Nobody follows up case – probably I know this better then anybody else 🙂 They pissed me to no limits.

Secondly – Support is 24 hours – Which is only Telephonic – If there is some line problem do you have any alternative.

And Sify they have more closed cases without even resolving the problem.

There is no commited downtime/Network Outages – ie is accepted downtime in sify can be approximately 70% but what about rest 30%.

If I do not get even that 30% I feel bad.

And Venkatesh – Are these agents trained / Is there any minimum qualification for them to join sify.

And would you know If their Franchisee support staff is trained as well ?

The problem in sify broadband and cable tv operators is sify pays only 40 to 30 % of the revenue to cable operators – so its generally not possible for CTO to provide best support – for example if you pay Rs.400, Cable operator going to get Rs.100 to Rs.150. CTO have to pay for maintenance, power, breakage etc. So its not going to be Cable tv operator who is going to make money and not customers, who is going to get benefit. Its all sify which makes money without any infra structure and also services.

    Venkata,

    Thank you for information.

Would you know more about shared/non shared/dedicated connections ?

They have managed switches etc. And (I know it is true) If any of the internet cafes use same connection and pay less .

    Know anything of that ?

Shared/non shared/ dedicated: All this parametres will be controled by server in sify end – its not dealing with cto or cables used – according to your account sify server will allow you download and upload – for you information there are 7 servers in mumbai sify server – only 1500 customers can use 1 server, anythink more than that sify server will not allow you to login or download – but sify has more than 30,000 customers in mumbai – calculate ! you will know why you are not able to download ! more customers using same server in peak time will lead to lower bandwidth even for customers using costly package.

about switch : these switches need electricity power to operate – failure in power will lead to absence of data conversion leads to connectivity problem ! so these switches are placed in cyber cafe’s and sify iway’s – people in these centre will take care of those switches – they will simply switch off – to save power, when they leave home – then … u will get connectivity problem ! they will just disconnect your line if they need immediate connection or need !

nice work archer, sushubh, poonam. i support this work !We need to sue sify. Cheating people and earning profits sify need to face the consequence in court and also must think that indians are not fools and they cannot be fooled by anyone. The bad cause in my heart is sify is an indian firm and they are cheating people, this is the worst thing. nowadays forgein companies are doing well and giving more than they expect but sify. LIKE MOST OF U GUYS MY PROBLEMS WITH SIFY STATRED RIGHT FROM DAY ONE . THE ONLY REASON I HAD GONE WITH SIFY WAS THAT THEY TOLD ME THAT DOWNLOAD WAS UNLIMITED ON THE 64K LINE . THEN ONE FINE DAY I TRY TO LOG IN IT SAYS INVALID SESSION I CALLED THE TELEPHONE NOS(AM STILL TRYING TO GET THE WORD SIFY CUST CARE)AND THEN THEY SAY THERE IS A 150 MB LIMIT DAILY . THE CONNECTION IS ABSOLUTE CRAP . FIRST IT WAS A POWER ADAPTER PROBLEM THEN IT WAS CABLE FAULT THEN IT WAS THE RAINS IN CHENNAI . THE LOCAL CTO IS SUCH A THUG THAT HALF THE TIME HE DOES NOT PICK UP MY CALL AND OTHER TIMES IT IS ALL EXCUSES . AND THEN THAT CONTACT CENTER IS A ABSOLUTE WASTE OF TIME . NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THEY SHULD DO EVERY TIME ONLY ONE STANDARD RESPONSE “WE WILL FWD THIS TO THE APP DEPT AND SEE TO THAT THIS ISSUE IS RECTIFIED” . OVERALL THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED . ALL THE BEST FOR THAT CASE . ANY ISSUES WITH SIFY FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME . I WILL RESPOND AS LONG AS MY CONN IS AVALIABLE

Now this month when i renewed he said he is not gona renew my account from next month if i m not giving him Rs50. that is i have to pay Rs495+50. So some one plz tell me what should i do,whether i have to call the customer care and

When SIFY themselves have started providing at the bottom of the rate list that LCO can charge extra maintainence charges, then I don’t think customer care will help.

POOR / WORSE / WORST SERVICE BY SIFY BROADBAND

    Hello all,

This is sathya (Another person deceived at chennai) and I wish to tell some of the problems I’m facing with the SIFY BROADBAND. I bought a new sify broadband connection from one of their dealers / Franchisee at Arumbakkam, Chennai on July and is said to me that the connection will be received in 3 days. But I received connection only after 5 days. First itself there is very slow in their process of connecting the cable.
After getting connection, I was told by their dealer / Franchisee that they may be contacted directly if any problem arises regarding connectivity. I informed them many times but I don’t have any complaint number. And finally I was continuously not able to connect them for 16 days. In the middle of those days, when I contacted their customer care office I have been informed that my problem will be solved in 12 working hours and that itself took more than a week for them to reconnect my connection. I don’t know whether the Sify works for their dealer / franchisee or the dealer / franchisee work for the sify and still I’m not able to determine who is the boss amongst them.
And again from December end to the middle of January i.e., within a period of 20 days, I complained the customer care of Sify about 6 times for continous disconnection while browsing (Always the same error : Check with local cable network and unable to reach the gateway) but that was not solved till now by them. They are only eager in their money making but not doing the work well and good. If the work is done well I think there will not be any disconnection and I don’t need to call their customer care frequently. They gave only temporary solution and not a permanent solution. The customer care of Sify always says that they are only complaint receiving team and they have to contact their technical team regarding each and every complaint and they were not able to give me an exact scenario of my complaint. And I hope that in my area these problem occurs again and again and the Sify dealer / Franchisee is careless and even Sify customer care is careless on my complaints. The Sify team should know how to make connections without disconnectivity and they should learn a lesson atleast after seeing this.
As an ISP their job is to give continous internet connection without disconnectivity every second i.e.,60*60*24*7 without fail but they failed to do that. One of their representative said, there is some problem at the connection point and problem is due to that only. But they are not giving me permanent solution even after knowing that problem. Why cant they think of that before when I asked for new connection (Only money is their motive at that time). After paying initial amount for connection, they didn’t even install any other external devices like modem etc, as a property of our own. Its just a cable running inside and outside for their connection.
I bought Sify broadband to just browse and explore all and for games and to relax a bit. But that itself has became a burden to me and it gets me in high tentions resulting no peace of mind. I request that I may be advised how to file a Consumer case against them by telling the mistakes in detail about them and their dealer / Franchisee and how can I claim money due to mental embarrassment by them for their poor / worse / worst service and also how to teach them a lesson while giving connection to another persons.

I may also be informed what hapnd to the case file by Mr. Ankur.

Hey Everyone, There’s no use to just post our complaint in a forum. We need to take the action. i just had my own problem that sify broadband client is not allowing to use my own licensed anti-virus software. Its AVAST Anti-virus. i feel its best software than norton and mcafee but i can’t use it unfortunately because sify bbclient checks anti-virus authentication. So i directly mailed this guy Ranjith kumar working in sify corp the next day they phoned me and asked me whats my problem i shouted at them and they solved my problem. now i don’t have problem.

    Hi Guys,

Hats off to Ankur for his great work, I guess he must be a Qualified IT Lawyer by now :P. Anyways its not only about sify, but soooo many other services with their “Conditions Apply” written in so small barely legible print. I feel that any service an individual pays for must first of all be explained in Legitimate and Readable print and Strict Laws must be implemented to govern them. Legal Actions like suing must be taken more seriously and for that people should first of all know their Rights. Educate yourself more about Law and Legislature atleast about things that concern and affect your daily life. Take Americans for example. I being a Technical Support Engineer (Voice) for Linksys deal with them daily. They know their law and also their rights. Like if they break the law themselves they cant bribe their way out, and if someone cheats them…..God have mercy on the cheat coz hes gonna be sued for sure. Its not that suing is taken more seriously in America than in India, it is people in India that are too lazy to follow its procedure and to educate themselves about these things and I feel that Ankur is an example to us all to not take shit from any service for which you have paid your hard earned money…..

P.S. BTW what happened bout da case dude?
I read the posts but might have missed it 😛
Anyways keep up the good work !

P.P.S. Broadband in India is a “Myth”…..It does not exist

Thanks for your comments Mr Amyn and Mr Alim…

Alim u r right, LCO also blames the LAN card when they are unable to find any proper solution 🙂

Mr Shaikh, thanks for the comments… I appreciate that.
But reason for lesser number of people moving Consumer Court… is more due to slow legal procedures, and some persons cannot afford to spare such time due to their professional n busy life.

Ya, to some extent, this helps wrong-doers to go scot-free… thats why there are lesser number of cases against SIFY then there need to be :p

And about the case, as already mentioned at comments # 346 – it will be re-tried afresh from the coming month… :thumb:

I had purchased a Sify broadband connection on the 28th of April for which I had paid 1700 Rs. (1000 Rs. registration charges and 700 Rs. package charges for a month). The sales executive promised me that the connection would be activated the same evening. However, the sales executive did not turn up till 10 pm in the night. When he did turn up, he gave me a free connection for 7 days and said that the connection pack that I had paid for would be activated in a couple of days. I was fine with the idea. However, post 2 days there was no update on my account with Sify. I called up their Customer Service number on the 4th of May and the guy on the line informed me that my account would be renewed within 24 hours. However, there was no renewal done on my account post 24 hours. I gave the customer service guys a call back again and the same thing was repeated, stating that the account would be renewed in 24 hours. I called them again today and was promised a call back by their manager within an hour. After 3 hours of waiting for a call back, when I contacted them again, I got a chance to speak with their Floor Supervisor named Habib. She said that she would be unable to provide me with information on refund as I wanted to discontinue my account. All in all, a very frustrated customer, who does not even want a refund of the 1700 Rs. now! Really fed up with the appalling Customer Service, or should I say non-Service.

    Hi,

I am a Sify customer (got it by mistake.. should have seen this review first) for the last 1 month. Every single day, right when I am in the middle of something important, the network crawls to a stop. it is supposed to be “broadband” but the speed never goes beyond 3kbps. A webpage such as gmail/google takes about 5-10 minutes to open, after many time-outs. (error BB-101, server unreachable). All night now, I am unable to open gmail.

The Sify people think that everyone in India is a fool.. that Indians have never used real broadband so they have no idea what broadband means.. well what about Indians who have been abroad and have had the chance to use real broadband
    ???

    My demands with Sify
    1) Remove the term “broadband”.
    2) compensate me (and others) for the mental harrasment caused. The connection is soooooo slow.. it has made me into a mental wreck. A job like uploading a file that takes 5 minutes at a cafe with reliable connection takes the entire night on Sify.
    3) Simply step down from the ISP bandwagon.. Sify, you cannot provide quality service..

Consumer Law is covered under Consumer Protection Act, 1986. Under which the case can be filed with any of the Consumer Forums within whose jurisdiction the Opposite party carries on business or have branch office.

Various Consumer Forums are set up in various cities… like in Delhi, there are around 6-7 Forums located in North-west, West, Central, and various other districts. Please search through google for exact addresses. And let me know for addresses of Forums in Delhi jursdiction.

I wud also like to join in this battle against sify. Problems i am faicng are as follows:

1)Network problems on regular basis: I face 1 or 2 network problems every week. When i call up there customer care they commit to fix it within 12 working hours(I dont know how they count their working hours). And they never do it witin that time. So after a lot of complains i have 2 call up my local cable operator who fixes the problem. And when i ask them for compensation they refuse it by makig useless excuses. If they give compensations thats only for 2 days not more than that.

2)I think they have banned the p2ps and torrents as speeds are very less when downloading stuff through it.

3)Even though i have avast! antivirus installed i have to install there antivirus that just sucks the resouces and sits idle in the system tray while avast does it work

4)Useless popups of Internet Explore open when ever i login that direct me to http://www.sify.com and http://www.banglorelive.com Even though i am using Mozilla Firefox browser they always open in internet explorer.

5)At the end of june i asked them to renew my account. After a lot of requests they didny renew my account but jsut provided 2days extension. As usual i had to consult my local cable operator who gave me the direct no. of their renewl team

6)The weirdest problem of all. Yesterday i.e. 09.07.06 i made a complaint regarding non connectivity. I was facing BB101 Unable to reach gateway.I was surfing and then the connection stopped. I made a complaint and tried to log off it said UNABLE TO LOG OUT sify server will do an automatic logg out. And i also complained my local cable operator. At evening when the problem was fixed i was shocked to see that sify server didnt logg me off and it was showing i had used 780 mb now how come i used it when i was not able to log in??

we have got to start a http://www.sifybroadbandsucks.com and make it so popular…that whenever someone googles “sify” they must get this site on the top….
i am sure with so many sify victims, the sheer numbers would do the work. also we can use search optimising, which i am sure with so many people here someone must be a expert.

    Hey Mandeep,

The exact same thing happened to me. I needed to be in touch with my family on 7/11 but Sify was down for two days

Now It comes on when you go personally and complain to the Cable operator (SSV cable).

Every day it goes down for 9-10 hours giving me error BB101. What is ironic is that this happened right before I was about to hit \”Submit comment\” for this entry in the blog. It is so frustrating. It is impossible to get the customer service even during working hours and I have to go personally almost every day to the cable operator..

We should not only sue Sify but also the cable operators. This really sucks. You are right in that they are behaving like pakis. Please count me in. I want to sue the hell out of these b*******

Please see this post earlier describing my woes with Sify http://blog.guru/weblog/index.php?p=4#comment-37315

Recently I got my SIFY connection which says unlimited at night but damn for me it
should be “Unplugged at night”. And oh CTO’s Service is rly bad here, they disconnects phone calls if we call them to complain.

Now I’m planning to swich to MTNL TriBand.

from them i can share data like movies, songs, games gud stuffs n nething u want at a great speed of 5mb-10mb per second thats why i haven switched 2 airtel, relince, n mtnl till now cause they are not providing active LAN

n one more thing we frends pla hardcore gaming over lan n all internet players can also join us n we gets classic speed for free (free of cost cause on LAN)

Sify is insensitive, insulting and cheating customers. I am a subscriber for the last 4 yrs and want to say the following:
    1. On my one month family unlimited, my connection was off for 10-12 days every month and I was loosing 1/3rd money. Sify and local were either not available or taking technical positions.
2.They put the phones down if they know about the complainant. This is insulting.
3.They reduce your time in the name of over-download arbitrarily.
Shifting is not the solution, we should take them to the consumer courts.

It’s the case of negligence of customers by Sify Broadband Service and believe me before writing to you I have already wrote number of mails and fax to sify. I have kept save all the mails and fax in case if you need to verify them.

Service was never good from sify since the starting and somehow I was managing it because I had already paid the non refundable installation fee. In the starting days of taking the sify connection I used to get only 3-4 days of connectivity in the whole month and despite making number of calls to the sify customer care the result was always pathetic. I think I have spent more money in calling them then using their Internet connection and I am not the lonely sufferer. If you check the Internet Community you will find that 80% of the customer are not satisfied. Once a consumer took the connection and they fall in the trap. Nobody can do anything against a corporate giant who is almost inaccessible. You can have this experience first hand by calling their customer care executives. The catch here is, both the sify and their local franchise will point to each other when you ask who is the responsible person.

    Here is my case.
I renewed my account one week back on 18th of July. UserId: sudeep2011. My Internet was not connecting, I checked and it was saying local gateway connecting problem. I went personally to the CTO (the local franchise) and they came on Friday night and Saturday and finally found out that cable is not working. Now here is the actual problem.
When some 1 and half year back I took the Sify Connection at that time CTO was different one. They took the installation charges and other charges as applicable. But they were not having the proper logistic and infrastructure support to provide the proper connectivity and it goes on for 5-6 months and after Lots of grievances with sify that continued for further 1 month and finally Sify changes my CTO and I started getting the proper connection. And till now I was not having any problem with the CTO.

Now the person who came to my place, ask me to pay at least half the price of the cable cost. And here I have an objection.

Why should I pay the cable cost as I already given the once time installation charge (at the time of installation they promise that this is only one time free later on if any problems comes in the cable they will take care of it. Unfortunately it’s all verbal) Here I want to point out that I took the Internet connection on the brand name of Sify and not with the name of any of CTO. So Sify is given them freedom to tell the lies to the potential customers and back them with full strength.

If the CTO is getting changed because of they are not able to provide the infrastructure and logistics then the Responsibility lies on the sify as sify has given the responsibility to a person without checking the logistics expected and credibility. I don’t know why customer is being harassed with all these?

Now see the scenario of the customer care.
    · The original mail that I sent on 24th of July, stating all the facts that I mentioned earlier. Nobody responded.
    · Again I send one reminder on 26th of July when I didn’t get any response. I got response to that mail and some customer care executive promised me to get back to me in 3 working days.
    · No body responded to me after 3 days. Only I got one phone call from some representative of sify to call to local CTO on 30th of July. I called up the local CTO but nothing Changed.
    · On 1st of August I again sent one reminder but I didn’t get any respond.
    · I again sent one mail on 3rd of August and respond to that the same customer care executive called me (the one who promised me to call me after 3 working days). This time again making the promise to get back to me one next day. Nothing happened. Whole day I was looking at my phone in hope to get a call.
    · Again I send one reminder mail on 10th of August, for which I got one call on Saturday evening 12th of August, promising me to resolve the issue by Monday. Here the person told me it’s just the matter of 500 Rs only. Why I am making issue of it. I assume all the calls made by the call center representative get recorded. If you ask them then may be you can get what they have said to me. The next thing told to me is that according to the agreement the cable was my property. When I asked them to show me the sign copy of the agreement the person was clueless. Then again persuading me to pay 500 Rs for which I asked them to give me in written the reason why they are asking me for the money and again nobody responded on Monday.
    · On Wednesday 16th of august again I send one fax to sify.
    · When I didn’t get response then called them back on 17th of August. Further 2 days time given.

    Hello,
I am staying at Shipra Sun City Ghaziabad and have a SIFY broadband connection which rarely work. I am requesting to the Service Provide (PantaHome) from last 1 week to correct the issue. the connection is not working from last 10 Days and still not working. Sometime he does not pick the phone number and if by luck he attand the call, he respond like the connection will be working in next 30 mints but it could not happen from last 10 days everytime he shows that my compain number is next to where the guy is working. Is it possible in any scenerio that the second compain remain second for weeks? This is the worst service and worst people i have ever seen in Delhi and NCR. I have paid a installation charges of Rs. 1300 so ofcourse it is not free what i am demanding. The service is very very very poor.
    Thanks

    Hi,

My name is Ravi Purohit. I am one of the victims of the pathepatically run “Sify Ltd.”. Inspite of making payments religiously on the day they are due, I face the following:

Each month after making the payment for the month my connection goes off. The error message says – account expired. Now, this gotto be a joke because I made the payment only a week ago. This is happening over the last 6-8 months. Each month I’ve to call up the customer care numbers and local CTO. Once assured by the customer care people, I get another shock – my connection goes off a few days later again. Reason: After the previous complaint pple at Sify had given me a trial pack for a few days, ie. until my “original & fully-paid for” account is in place. But, to my utter dismay, they did not get my original a/c and gave me another trial pack to work with. This is really stupid. Ankur I am with you against this really reckless company.

I am a Sify user from Kolkata & have been a victim of the Sify Corporation. I have been using their Broadband service for over 18months which is pathetic. Prior to that i had a dataone connection which was introduced with unlimted download initially so as to attract consumers.
My experience with Sify has been worse than with BSNL. The biggest problem that i have faced is BB101 which is caused when there is a problem with the switch. I have always used the Night Unlimited Package. In the begining the connection speed looked nice so i suggested it to my friends & so there were 3 connections in my locality.
As a few weeks passed i started getting errors like BB101. I being a Night Unlimited user could only get access to the internet connection after 10pm & 8am. So when i connected after 10pm i got a BB101 error. I called up my CTO i.e. Cine Cable Operator they said it will be rectified by tomorrow morning. Now the point is that i waste my entire day thinking that i will connect at night & do my work on the internet, but i get an error, which is rectified in the morning ( i cannot use during the daytime) so when i connect at night i again get the same error. I asked for compensation from my CTO they said to talkt to the Customer Care & in turn the Customer Care said they cannot provide as i did not register a complaint with them. So from next time onwards i started registering the complaint first with the customer care only whenever i got an error.
Since the last 18 months i have been getting this BB101 error all the time . Currently they have placed the switch in my building. The excuse the CTO & Sify dept. give me is that the switch gets burst each time there is lightnig or heavy rain. So i felt like taking some legel action against them. I wrote a letter regarding the problems i have been facing with Sify BB along with a request to give me list of all the Complaint no. that i had registered with them, to all the customer care email addresses given on the site. But the only thing i got was an auto generated reply which said that my query will be solved within the next 24Working hours. So i went to the local Sify Office located in Kolkata. There i spoke to the Access Media head who was in charge of my CTO. I asked him to get the BB101 problem fixed permanently & a list of the complaints which he assured.
After 3 weeks i still did not get any response what so ever from any of the departments regarding my problems & suddenly on 9th Sep when i had tom submit my assignment the conneciton was again down (BB101). I spoke to my CTO he said he will try to get it repaired. I called thhe Access Media person again & spoke to him about the matter as well as the list which he assured that he wil send me. I told him that i have no other alternative but to take some legal action against them so he said, “you can got consumer court, high court or for that matter any court u like “, & then he hung up. I mean is that a way to treat a customer.
The days for which i had registerd a complaint i used to get a “compensation” (which should be more than the loss or atleast equivalent ot it) but when i buy a 256Kbps pack & the compenstaion that htey give me is of 128Kbps.

I would really like to get help from anyone regarding this. I really wanna take some legal action against Sify Corp.
I request anybody to help me & give me some legal advice on how to procedd agaisnt taking a legal action against them.

I agree to this cause for simple reason tht their service is badly hit in mumbai due to rains last year and this year also…last year we dint get any compensation ..this year they have started giving compensation but not to all users at all time..only to those users who mail them…..the issue and tht also lot excatly the time they have lost but less than tht…also they ahve failed to provide unirreupted service during normal rains forget abnormal events..is this the kind of service they promise..what kind of proffessional company it is or it claims when they cannot update their substandard systems in 24 hrs…a thunder in sky then jus stop their service!!!!in 21st century they have an excuse of normal rains..for not providing quality service but charging the user for the whole month…

To increase broadband connections from the current 17 lakhs in the country stringent laws have been put forth by the telecom regulator to ensure that service providers do not slacken on servicing the customers.

In all cases where payment towards installation charge and security deposit is taken and the broadband connection is not provided within 15 working days, a credit at the rate of Rs 10 per day, subject to a maximum of installation charge or equivalent usage allowance shall be given to the customer, at the time of issue of first bill, the regulator, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said.

Following is the second last para of the decision 🙂

“It has been held that concealing hidden condition and not redressing the grievances of the complainant who made complaints with regard to poor customer service on number of occassions, in our considered opinion, amounts to deficiency in service on the part of Opposite Party and indulging in to Unfair Trade Practice.

We, therefore, direct the opposite party to refund the amount of Rs 1,200/-, paid for two months by the complainant along with comoensation to the tune of Rs 5,000/- for causing mental agony and harassment to the complainant and further, pay a sum of Rs 2,000/- towards cost of litigation to the complainant.”

The order makes the mention of following hidden conditions before the above para:

    1. Reduction of speed to 14 Kbps after a download of 750 MB of data in the month (2004)

    2. If the customer downloads more than 150 MB in a day, he is penalized in the form of reduction of package by one day (2005)

“Both the above conditions are not brought to the notice of the customer at the time of entering in to the contract.”

Thanks for all the support friends 😎

    One Most Important Point…

“Court has also held that Opposite Party has failed to provide minimum speed of 256 Kbps as per the definition of BroadBand as laid down by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India….”

Though I never claimed that explicitly… but the whole case has been interpreted from this point of view by Hornorable court. That implies that not complying with TRAI definition also resulted in ‘deficiency in service’.

So this becomes a landmark judgement 😎

    Hi All,
This is the time for celebration, But before that let me point out something. I was watching this case for a long time and every new comment and post i was going through.
Many people came, they were frustrated, and some joked, some vent out their frustration and go ahead to change their Internet connection.
Keep in mind that when ever somebody was searching for complains against the sify they were landing on this blog, and one man was fighting the battle against the corporate giants for more than 3 years when most of us could loose the hope or run away because lack of time. Many of us thought to go to consumer court against sify but how many really went??
I guess in the future also when somebody will have any trouble with sify then will land to this blog only.
We all joined for a cause with our individual interests.
Now it’s time to recognize the great effort and time spend by Ankur. He was representing us when we were sitting in the comfort of our home and office and cursing sify. He was fighting the battle for us.
    AND WE SALUTE YOU ANKUR.
It’s the sweet smell of revenge that we got from you.
Money was never important for most of us. But the way they used their customer care as a tool to shield themselves was irritating and making consumers feel cheated even after paying in advance.

i also suffered a lot from sify in bangalore, i also installed the same so called 64 KBPS unlimited plan ,paid 1000 installation charges for nothing but a lan cable, while local operator called it is an optical fiber,
whatever, connection hardly worked, all the times mostly it was “BB-101” error ,many complaints many issues loads of phone calls, but it never worked.
finally i terminated the connection, after loss of 2 months time and lot of loss in work.
the local CTOs never work and they make people suffer a lot, there would not be any power backup on switches and speeds are too little.

    Hi Venu,
you should have search on the net before applying for the connection. now u r trapped in the sify net then u started searching the net and landed here.

now the only solution is to nag them a lot with mail phone calls and all the irritating ways that call center ppl do. that worked for me though it took me 1 month to resolved my problems but it worked out. i called thier CEO, area manager, faxed them as an legal prove that i send them complain and things like that.. daily 3-4 calls a day like telemarketing ppl do.

I have almost written a 3 para profane filled complaint about the customer care guys of sify.. but whats the use..

can someone please suggest me —
1> the customer care guys are pathetic — what can i do ?
2> the speed promised(256) compared the the speed delivered(7kbps) is a far cry — what can i do in this regards .. ( i asked my local operator for sify and he said he would just reformat the whole machine should anyone have complains with the speed .. huh )
3> the local operator (broker) charges me extra money than what should be charged — he says he has to maintain an IP address pool etc.. and that why he charges that amount ( ex. for 511 fam pack.. he charges 550-600).
    4> if i subcribe for a 256 KBps, and i get say .. 50 kbps .. AM I EXTREMELY LUCKY ?? i never get speed of 20 KB atleast 🙁

    Hi Ram,
with your post it’s not clear you are taking about Kbps or KBps. if you are getting 80% of the 256kbps speed then it’s consider as good speed. But with the proven track record of sify i am sure you are getting very bad connection string. Figrt back with the Sify. don’t need to talk with the customer care. try to get in touch with their higher authority. Customer care is alwats a 3rd party who try thier best not to log any complain just like our police who don’t want ti file a FIR. becasue this become on record. so once call the customer care. log the complain. get the complain number and start nagging the Higher authorities with the mail and fax. Send 1 mail in the starting. then next day send a reminder mail. again send one reminder mail. send a fax. again send a mail. let them call you so you don’t need to waste your money on the phone. and then drag the conversation for atleast 30 minutes and tell them all the problems. if they promise to get in touch in 2 days. send a mail again after 2 days. THE METHOD IS KEEP NAGGING THEM JUST LIKE MARKETING EXECUTIVES WHO TRY TO SELL CRADIT CARD. this is called mordern gandhigiri. keep nagging them. it worked for me.

    hi guys

One thing let me tell you how the connectivity is done by major players like airtel, reliance, sify etc. India has just 3 major gateways all owned by VSNL in Mumbai, Chennai, Ernakulam. All the traffic are first routed from homeland to these three destinations & then routed to Internet access. Suppose a consumer is having a Sify Connection in Ghaziabad, how the connection is done is this way.

    Way # 1

    Consumer-> Sify Exchange(Ghaziabad, Nearby Location)-> VSNL PoP(Noida)-> VSNL Mumbai (Gateway)–> Internet Cloud.

This route is always safer from exchange end. It is always prone at Last Mile, which is the connectvity between Consumer & Sify Exchange.

    Way # 2

    Consumer-> Sify Exchange(Ghaziabad, Nearby Location)-> Sify Exchange(Mumbai)-> VSNL Mumbai (Gateway)–> Internet Cloud.

This route is always given for a cheaper price. If you demand price reduce they have options like that. Here the connectivity can take a beat from Consumer-> Sify Exchange(Ghaziabad, Nearby Location)-> Sify Exchange(Mumbai).

How do they work since they dont have their own gateway. They buy bulk lease connectivity from VSNL & provide it to their consumers. VSNL can take the responsibility of connectivity between Sify & VSNL. It wont take any responsibility thereafter. Who ultimately suffer the consumers.

Why I am telling you this because my organisation provides VSNL ILL services across India. We have faced a lot of problem with connectivity. Then I had the opportunity to take a look at connecitivity of Sify/Airtel then only i came to know about this. But when encountered with VSNL counterpart and said why the reason you charge very high. He said because of VSNL connectivity. I am talking of ILL. I have lost many cases because of High Price/ Poor Customer Service. Regarding this my organisation decided to take up this matter with VSNL guys who were approached by many channel partners in this regard. Now they have started to pull up their socks & act. Now they have started to provide better customer service and became flexible on prices. Let see how they keep their repute in market.

NOTE: WHENEVER YOU BUY A NEW CONNECTION ALWAYS INSIST ON S.L.A’s ( SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT). HERE THE POINTS WHICH ARE TO BE MENTIONED ARE

    1) UPTIME PERCENTAGE
    2) PACKAGE DROP ( LATENCY)
    3) IN CASE OF DOWNTIME
    4) PENALTY CLAUSES
    5) WITHDRAWL OF SERVICES

In case you guys require some help on how to formulate these clauses do mail me at kjbadri@gmail.com

    Hi,

In New Delhi, SIFY has been charging about Rs 100/ per month for their non-existant service. It was never informed when I started taking their package in Feb end or March 2006.

I generally take 1 month, 1gb limit, 256 kbps speed pack worth 651/- after all their charges. This month (1st Jan 2007) they have taken full amount but alloted me a wrong package of 500 Mb for 2 months. I consume abt 500 Mb in 15-18 days time. They are totally reluctant to correct their mistake.

Earlier also once (in August or Sept 2006) my remaining amount of Rs 185/- suddenly vanished when i tried checking thru their software My account feature. They never entertained any complaint.

All calls to SIFY land up in Chennai and unfortunately lot of time is spent in deciphering the north indian and soiuth indian english accents.

Its time people woke up to fact that SIFY care is non-existant and they just want to collect people’s money.
Unfortunately in my area only SIFy cablenet broadband is being provided by all cable people. The mannerism of SIFy ( in other words, ‘rudeness’, ‘unprofessionalism’) has rubbed onto to SIFY franchises as well.

    # who needs their Antivirus? just a small trick fools em and the authentication client thinks McAfee/ Trend Micro is installed !
though officially u have to ask them to disable the AV checking feature.

    # Just put the MAC of ur desktop on ur Laptop and u r roaring !
officially Sify allows 2 MAC address for an IP but again lot of requesting…

    # The best unofficial part !!! do wht u want as its a LAN and not an ADSL so getting caught is almost impossible…use any other IP/user name and uuuhhhh who cares…use ur CTO’s BBBA_DELCxxx…

Wanna know the hi-speed office user in ur area? use their login after office hours ….uuuuhhhh

hey guys i’m not kidding… if anyone is from Sify out here he will surely know the name Bobby from Kolkata… brought down entire Chennai as a demo for a day 3 months back as they were denying Kolkata its legitimate bandwidth and the guys at Chennai got scared and deleted some of their modules !!! god help em…hope they know i dont access modules i access the Apache

U have my orkut above just mail me (plz dont scrap) with ur CTO name or ur IP or the first 3 values 10.23.x and i’ll tell u the office users in ur area…enjoy guys… why complaint !!! no other ISP (apart from some 24 online small timers) r on LAN so do wht u want chill !!!

Sify is nothing more than an eye wash. Even though we all know about it, unfortunately nothing can be done thanks to the Indian legal system.

But I really hope someone hits them with a big time law suit and sets the house in order.

By the way, I had some issues with Sify myself and even posted a complaint to their “customercare@sify.com” It’s been almost a month and they have not cared to respond back.

That’s how the plight is in India. On the other side, Sify is minting more and more money with the increase in the internet usage.

    All the best guys!

    Hi Ankur,
Glad to know that ur taking such a step. . . . the services of sify are pathetic. . . Im am a seior tech with DELL and ask me what broadbrand is. . I take control of customers computers and broadband means speed of 150+ upto 1Gb per sec (and belive me i see this everyday) . I pay 1225 bucks (256 kbps unlimited doenload) and belive me the maximum speed i get in Vaishali is 31 kbps that also SOMETIMES at night. . . TOO BAD AIRTEL DONT HAVE THEIR LINES IN HERE. . . They promised me a speed of atleast 80kbps per sec while taking the connection (What A Joke). . . Plus i work mostly at night and i swear 15 days out of 30 their connection is down at night. . . So basically i am paying 1225 bucks uselessly . . . When i ask them they simply reply that at night the local guy who takes care of our connection in our locality is not their and 256 kbps means the browsing speed not the download speed and that’s also shared. . . Well buddy ur doing a good job . . . MY WISHES ARE WITH YOU. . . Mob : 9891245203

A very nice go mr. Ankur, however since you seem to be an exprt in cyber laws and stuff i would like to ask you a few questions:

Whenever i connect to the internet their client opens up an advertisement window.

Advertisement windows also popup occasiionally while surfing the internet.

Does this classify he sify broadband client as an adware? And does that mean, in turn, that SIFY is using the context of a broadband client to distribute adware?

Advertisements can popup according to the terms agreed at the time of registration, which mostly we dont go through. SIFY surely must have included in the user’s agreement…

And in any case, action cantt be taken or compensation can’t be claimed unless and until you show some major harm to you or your computer due to such nuisance… as otherwise a legal action is not worth devoting time to… and even in some cases court do not admit such cases, as they are already over burdened with cases…

    Hi,
Is there anybody in Mumbai to join me to file a case against sify. Please join me.

Here is the problem I faced.
    ————————————————–
I renewed my account on 19th November 2007. I used it on 20th night. on 21st morning when I tried to connect, it said ” Unable to connect to gateway”. So as I was quite hurry to move to office, I disconnected the cable and kept my laptop in locker and went to office. That day (21st Nov) after coming back from office, I used the net. But when I tried to connect on 22nd Nov(Just 3days after renew) morning, it said your account has been expired.

Shocked by this I referred my session details, it shows that I’ve used the net on 21st morning 8:00AM to afternoon 3:45PM and in that period my usage is 903MB. So the account got expired (As there is 150MB limit on which 1day will be deducted for every extra 25MB).

I’ve called customer care, mailed them stating my problem, they are just dumb. and still arguing that I’ve used net and downloaded 903MB. How can I fight back and teach them a lesson. As you’ve already won the case, you are the hope for us. Please help me.

    Thanks & Regards,

In one sentense Sify is __________ Company.

I even hate there cyber cafe chain which unnecessarily show pop up ads when you click internet explorer icon.

They are still using windows 2000 and full of junk internet explorer v 6.0 . I never saw a firefox browser in any of their cyber cafe outlets.

I even collects users’ privacy data and I doubt It keeps record of his/her surfing habits.

Further even if pron is banned in sify cafes then why porn sites are still accessible via its ISP ?

they have even set it to their own homepage so as to increase their ad impression even when user is not willing to visit their site.

Calling the sify call centers is itself a headache, they can hold your call for infinite period of time and its not toll-free. Most of the times they hold your call or ask you to leave your phone number saying that they would call you back. One day I had to keep on holding my call thinking that their operator would come at last for half an hour. So its better to call again if you hear that” executives are busy, please hold the line , your call is important to us”. May be they have a virgin phone number which pays them for holding the call of the callers for infinite period of time. Local operators of sify are better in this case, they won’t even pick up your call even if you call them hundred times, and they have innovated different ways like musical busy caller tunes to shoo away the complainers. They are stubborn and would tell you that they are doing their work even if you call them after 10 pm. Even hundred calls both to local operators and sify call centers can’t resolve your problem, so its better not to increase your phone bill. I realized this after seeing that my phone bills have almost doubled after taking sify internet connection.

It is not only in Sify Broadband but people like me have been duped in Sify’s Forum Supply Chain Management Solution Software, where the company after sales support personnel are not there to help the customers use the product. Only big companies who have bought their products are givien some support since big money is involved but small customers are left in a lurch.
