Supreme Court in an order passed on March 28 said “The regulator can bite a service provider who offers a dream scheme to lure people as its subscribers, only to leave them high and dry by discontinuing it a few months later. ”
The order directly aims at Life-Time offers provided by the Telecom Operators. Trai was rendered toothless by the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) which in the BPL Mobile Cellular Ltd case had held that the regulatory body had the power to give direction in regard to the Telecommunication Tariff Order (TTO), 1999, but could not penalise service providers if they violated the direction.

This exactly serves the service providers right…..this immoral practice of luring people just to leave them in the midstream must stop and TRAI should impose example setting penalties on the service providers …..so that the others may take a lesson from it.
PENALTIES SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE …”THE SP WILL HAVE TO MANADTORILY PROVIDE THE SERVICE THAT IT HAS PROMISED” OR BE ESTOPPED FROM CONDUCTING ANY FURTHER BUSINESS”
