TRAI on Internet

7/6/2005 By Blogger 15 Comments

TRAI says:  ISP operators don’t meet the quality parameters, we will prosecute them and that includes directing the licensor (government) to impose a penalty on the defaulter.

“However, consumer-related directives by Trai are intended to help the district consumer forums. The other option is to drag the operators to courts.”

This means… time to complain against SIFY BroadBand to TRAI

    woooh…. njoy karo.

I came across the complaints page abt Sify.

    # They provide an IP address, which is not static, so it’s not possible to find out, who is the user. Which makes it difficult to catch cyber criminals.
    # When law provides such harsh punishments for crimes, then who is to be held responsible, if the criminal cannot be caught and hacking attempts are made from SIFY network itself.

    – This point isn’t valid (acc. 2 me). I wouldn’t prefer a static IP due to privacy reasons. Since I post comments on ur site (n if I had a static ip) u’d know my identity and lets say u also own playboy.com, u’d easily no if I visit it or not.

Its not that that if someone has a dynamic ip, he/she can not be traced. (I believe) the ISPs maintain a database where they associate all the IP addresses assigned to a particular user along with the reqd. timestamps. SO they can very easily tell that the ip addr. *.*.*.* was assigned to the user XYZ at a given point of time.

    Hi Gaurav:!:

I think having a static IP is beneficial to me, as an owner of a site and a computer. Like, if some one is spamming on my site or intruding into my PC.
No doubt, I can easily block some static IP.

And I don’t think an ISP like SIFY will ever cooperate in providing such information that you have mentioned is available with them…

Last year, one person from neighbour having static IP tried to hack into my PC, which was detected by Norton and straight away I issued a warning through LCO to that person… which was very much effective.

As otherwise, the ISP is not going to help me in such cases to detect who tried to hack into my PC, unless and until Police case is registered against that person… which ofcourse becomes a complicated matter.

This Point relating to Static IP was basically included, as at the time of installation there was mis-representation on behalf of SIFY LCO, that they provide an static IP
